It’s raining and there’s no free coffee and surprise, surprise… not a weekender in sight. I am literally the only spectator here. There’s more Victory fans here and they’re not even training!

Oh no, look at what’s on the field…

Judd vomits due to drinking too much water. He’s always had this issue except he doesn’t consider it a problem coz he feels so much better afterwards.

Clarrie said to let y’all know that he’s yet to reach his best and that he’s working really [censored] hard on it.

LOL love your work, DIABOLICAL 🤣

Hey Ghosty, thanks for keeping the training threads going along. Really appreciate it.

Hey can you tell me if McAdam has been back around the group? I thought he would have been more visible around the indigenous rounds but I don't recall seeing him.

Does he still get around the lads much or are they getting around him still?

First time I’ve seen Shane since he was injured. He’s delighted to be out of the moonboot now and just wears a compression sock. He walks with a slight limp but that’s because he’s adapting to being sans moonboot. He’s in good spirits and is super keen for next season. He said he expects to be able to do a full preseason. He’s been doing heaps of other types of training, weights and the pool, the latter of which he loves. He talked about the timing of the injury being heartbreaking since at the time he was feeling the best he’s ever felt in his career and he knew his body was finally right.

I saw AMW too but didn’t get a chance to say anything other than hi (got to see that killer smile though). But coincidentally I ran into his sponsors before training and they’d been with him this morning. They said he’s in great spirits as well.

Andy and Shane and Koz didn’t train but came out at the end of the session to participate in a staff/player catch-up on the field.

Spargs has indeed done a scapula but isn’t expected to be sidelined for eight weeks, the doc said it’s likely only four or five weeks because it wasn’t as bad as they oftentimes are.

32 playing soccer today, and having a ball!

Initially absent: May, Viney, Lever, Spargo, Turner, Melksham, TMac, Hore, Sparrow, Kosi, Woey and AJ.

Later, as a bunch of staff awards were announced, all these absentees arrived, other than May, Spargo, Melksham and Woey.

Good to see both Andy M-W and Shane McAdam also in attendance.

Apparently Spargo hurt his shoulder in the Mills incident (see Ghosty's note). No indication of any player retirement announcements, so assume we will not be going to the mid-season draft tomorrow.

Tuesday is injury report day so we will see how bad Spargo's shoulder is.

Nod to the Kolt who was last off the track and picked up the equipment with Wheels.

Update: the coffee wasn’t free, not even for their members! Cheap bastards.

After our boys had gone back to the rooms Salo hung around with some little Victory fans and was showing them his soccer skills. Very impressive and I wanted to film it, but by the time I found my phone in the bottom of my bag he’d finished up. 😢

Thanks Ghosty, appreciate the response.

Really enjoyed reading the above. I just wondered from not seeing or hearing anything about him for a number of weeks whether he was just having a spell away from everything football related.

Happy to hear that he's committing to other training methods.

Terrible luck for Spargypants. I think he was slowly starting to find his feet a little again, despite those who count hard stats and goals only, and think he wasn't.

Geez... the gurgler awaits. A very over-rated competition.

The sky's parted at the time the MFC players arrived, and stayed drissle free for the entire time.

They are in very good spirits, joyful banter and laughter, plenty wrestling each other at the same time of kicking that round thing. Tracc participated in the game, which seemed to have more time than usual. They broke into the goal kicking drills. Most of them taking it seriously, till some young ones jumped the fence and attempted the shot from the "Back of Bourke".

The Administrators joined the group at the end of the flush run for a "gather" and some awards.

it's bad when it is only head injury that is taken into account by the tribunal in deciding penalty for unduly rough play. Mills should have got 3

I still enjoy it and am going this weekend - but definitely has some internal struggles.

Some promising signs of life with inclusion of Auckland this year, probably one of the few expansion clubs they didnt make a mistake with.

Definitely loses any media presence during the Cricket/Tennis and then AFL season though.

An all Melbourne Grand Final on Saturday night, on track to sell out AAMI but will get very little press in the build up

If Kozzy did what Mills did we all know 100% he'd be gone for at least 3 weeks - this tribunal system is a complete farce

On Spargo's injury he did seem to hurt his shoulder just before the Mills contact when he was in a contest on the left forward pocket - could be either incident I think

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
