You're avoiding the question. Did the game style work the last two weeks?

With continual Bad Kicking, it was adequate

But the problem still remains. We only kick big scores when the opposition gives up

Did Brisbane give up? That doesn't bode well for their season.

Our Goalkicking and Forward craft is the worst in the League, and has been that way for a long time

The Football Department need to be held accountable

ElDiablo - those are such damning numbers for a professional sports team. And they are not new. Season after season we produce similar numbers. Cost us as shot at a flag 2022 and 2023, and a shot at at least finals again this year.

Is there nobody ay our club with the brains or the authority to address this, year after year? If not can we search for someone who can, or are we just going to meekly roll over yet again?

It is really quite depressing to see so much waste.

The most damning part of this, for me, is the 14% goal conversion.

It is almost half of the average in the league, we probably are an outlier (in a negative way).

Really reaching VFL levels of incompetence.

Just came here to say we are, despite our best efforts, still not dead. Yet.

It's both positive and frustrating, but despite being poor yesterday, we could have won had we kicked even a little bit better. The first quarter was inexcusable. though. I still don't know why/how we let teams jump us like that. You can talk whatever stats you want for our improvement in the last 6-8 rounds, but the truth is it came down to pressure. We were tackling like crazy and running guys down. This did not happen yesterday. We let ourselves be shown up by ross and his merry band of equally frustrating 'will they/won't they' - just so happens, they did. And we didn't.

If we beat the Pies and Port (you'll laugh, and I am kind of laughing, too, deliriously, maybe - but we can beat both), and we can go into the bye thinking about what the home stretch looks like. I'd love to stun the Pies this week.

We have to remember, that despite the terrible, godawful, goalkicking yesterday, this is the same team we were gushing over last week.

Are we reliable or trustworthy? Hell no. But we are capable. And dangerous when we click. With a few more games and time together, especially with the kids, consistency will follow. I certainly would be focusing on being a trustworthy/reliable side in the offseason. That should be our culture. knowing what fans will get weak in, week out. None of this 'which Dees will turn up today' stuff.

I can deal with losing, provided the same Dees turn up every week and put in 100%.

Anyway, one game at a time.

You continually shift the goal posts.

I pulled you up because you said the game plan doesn't work.

When I pointed to our previous two wins, you started talking goalkicking.

If you'd started with goalkicking and not mentioned game plan, I would have agreed with you, but you started with the shallow analysis of the game plan doesn't work.

I don't think any Melbourne supporter would disagree with the far from enlightening idea that our goalkicking is often atrocious. Aside from the end of 2021, the start of 2022 and the start of 2023.

If Chocco is still deemed valuable for our development pathways, keep him on, but we need a new voice for goal kicking coach.

Hard to tell, Sydney are a shadow of what they were last year and Brisbane are consistently inconsistent! Can you please explain the radical difference between our emerging??? Game style??

I'm not going to explain the differences again. Read any of my approximately 20 posts on the matter this year.

Our record of 4 - 7 in Alice Springs is damning. Too many distractions off the field?

The Gameplan is not working, because we cannot score efficiently

I have shifted nothing

The MFC need to learn what GOAL POSTS ARE USED FOR

I think we can win enough games to make finals, yes.

There are more than enough historical examples to not rule us out. As I've already noted, Hawthorn were 5-7 with a percentage of 86.7 last year at the same time.

In fact, Hawthorn ended up being 8-8, with a percentage of 94.2 at Round 17 last year. They finished with a percentage of 118.5.

We had a bad day in the Alice, just as we did against GWS in Round 16 of 2023, kicking 5.15 that day and then coming out and winning the next week with a very straight 12.7.

We're not dead yet.

Delusion.... right here

That’s not how this works…

A gameplan is about team tactics and can only go so far as to create opportunities to score. We have had plenty of opportunities to score every single week.

Goalkicking is about the individual and is incredibly hard to re-teach to professional athletes who’ve been doing it a certain way their entire lives.

I disagree.

Because the same pattern has been visible for 3 years. It’s not working as a Whole plan….

Yes and No.

It partially works..

Bit like those games you play.. maze type... find the path through to the treasure. Some go a long way to a dead end. Do you call those " good paths" ?? They look like they will get you there, but don't.

Our game plan does not account for our obvious weaknesses. The greatest of which is quite simply we have no f'n idea what we're doing in the forward arc. Very little craft and embarrassing kicking.

So.. I'm calling it a NO

By all means think otherwise.

Then don't recruit or play forward any that don't meet this criteria.... oh wait!!

@Sir Why You Little et al are conflating our game plan (tactics) with our goalkicking accuracy (skill execution).

To use a cricket analogy, tactics is how to bowl to a certain batter and where to set the field while skill execution is holding your catches.

So how do you set a field for a team that can't catch ? Just curious

If you want to excuse Goodwin and his Gameplan over the last 3 years, go right ahead, but i don’t.

Goal Kicking is the most fundamental aspect of the game, always has been.

and we are the worst team at it, and have been for a long time

Goal Kicking is part of the Gameplan It’s a Big F

You increase the volume of opportunity.

To put it back into footy terms, you try to implement a gameplan which creates a plethora of goalkicking opportunities for your side so even if you miss a lot (like against Sydney) you make enough to still beat the fewer number of opportunities your opponent will get.

How that going for us ?

I am of the idea that raw data is overrated, we should focus more on analytics.

Efficiency is king. Take for example the NBA.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
