The Casey boys came out first. Rooey was with them. The seniors followed. Fritta was with them. Read into that what you will.

Wouldn’t surprise if Melky is out

Glad Fritta is back in.

Intrigued to see if May is training and if Blake Howes is with the seniors or Casey.

Judd McVee? Fullarton?

Hurry up my little sheet rack i need a training fix

I hope we don't make too many changes. We want consistency when you win like we did the other day.

All listed players in attendance today, except Lever (and the LTI's). Marty Hore was doing some running and kicking training with the physio - seems to be progressing well.

Turner was going through the "concussion protocols" with some moderate running.

May moved well.

Likely changes May and McVee in for Turner and Howes. See the other comments re Fritsch perhaps coming back for Melksham, depending on Melksham's condition.

Whilst I would prefer Campbell also in for Fullarton, I suspect that that change will not be made.

Some consideration probably given as to whether Howes stays as sub, and Sharp has a run at Casey?

Trac almost last off the field, doing lots of goal-kicking from 30-40 metres - all drop punts!

Fritta and Oliver last to leave....

Did Howes and Sharp train with the seniors??

Why would you rather Campbell? I think it's better to have a key forward who rucks. We need Campbell at Casey to help Verrell and I'd much rather use Campbell when we really need him (if Max needs to be rested or gets injured).

Just my personal opinion - Campbell is a "fit for purpose" quality ruckman who has performed very well at Casey and he can give us a significant advantage in the middle and at stoppages when Max needs a rest. Of course, we may not always want to play a second ruckman, and it will largely depend upon what we expect from the opposition.

There was no separation as such on the ground. These Captain's Runs are not used as match sims for the 23 who have been selected. Some cues are being taken from the order players came across from AAMI. I do not put much store in that as, for example, Kossie came across early and Culley came across with the main group. Kossie will play AFL and Jai will play Casey I expect.

Yep. Campbell should be under serious consideration if Max is facing two big boy decent rucks. Last week vs Omac... Fullo is fine.

This week the Tiges only have Nan as a serious ruck so should be fine to go round again with Fullo.

You'd have him play forward too though, right? Would you play an extra tall forward or just the single tall? The single tall could work (as below).

If you move the ball quickly enough, it may well work to structure your forwardline like so:

Spargo Fritta Chandler

Kozzy Petty Trac

Campbell resting forward or on the bench. So there's enough forward pressure with Spargo, Kozzy, Trac and Chandler. It puts the onus on our mids and half backs to ensure they don't long bomb. I'd also try and isolate Petty, Kozzy and Trac one out as often as possible.

A very pleasant morning track side with lots of kids getting autographs and selfies.

Pretty much a full turnout except for long term injuries.

Marty Hore was out very early but is still 3 weeks away. Has a natural great smile.

Bill, Kynan and Woey out next.

Clarry and Fritta were kick to kick practising low ball gets.

May went ok but looks tender.

It was a light session and you could read alot into who was with who but thats just a guess.

Tracca having shots from the boundary with Choco on the mark at the end.

Is it possible to have an opinion that isn't "personal"? Anyway I agree with you re Campbell. If Nank gets Gawny, which he always tries to do, we have Fullarton as back up. With Campbell we have a real ruck, Campbell is a much more "belts and braces" approach.

My reading if Fritta comes back that was the plan from day one. Why would you only play him for a half at Casey when he's out of form? This, coupled with Goody's comments in yesterday's presser suggest he's a good chance of coming back. If he does come back it suggests his demotion last week was a penalty rather than form.

Fair point - 6 disposals and the lowest individual player rating doesn't really do it for me. Happy to see improvement from Tom in Game 2, if he plays.

The other consideration is what they expect from Max - with Turner going down, and Petty staying forward, it was suggested that Max played a more defensive role in the second half than otherwise?

Thanks mate. Appreciate the efforts.

If you go the second ruck option it can go many ways - when we had Jacko, he could go forward (naturally) or Max can take longer breaks while Jacko rucked.

With Petty as a sole tall, Max could go forward whilst Campbell rucks. Plan A was probably adjusted on Saturday because Turner went down - let's see what happens tomorrow night. As I said, I expect Fullarton gets another crack at it.

I'm pretty sure I saw him playing in the 3rd quarter, if not longer.

This is exactly how Richmond were in 2017 (and they won the flag) - the one tall in the forward line option with Riewoldt (who isn't that tall), but needed a team playing quick footy and applying forward pressure as you suggest.

Whilst I agree he did not set the world on fire I am surprised by how many prefer Fullerton ommitted. Our forward line functioned and we did not lose impact when second rucks were in. He leads at the ball carrier and he moves. Rarely did our forwards get in each others way in the air. There is also something about building confidence for him and the team by minimizing changes of a quality team performance. Unless players are not fit (Melksham potential) or are making way for best 18 returns like May and McVee then we should be minimising change as much as possible.

He did.

Didn't play the last quarter.

Howesy came out with Casey.

Judd and Fullo came out with the seniors. Judd gave me a thumbs up, I very quietly said “tomorrow?” He said “yep!”

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
