Farewell Judd McVee

I hope they put him in the guts for the whole game today to see if he has what it takes. I think he is the most overrated underrated player if that makes sense.

i hope he goes straight to rhylee west and puts a massive clamp on him for a full four quarters, showing why a small defender is worth much more than a third rotation inside mid

Playing on Scott West today may be tricky 😉

Damn son, definitely playing like an individual ‘invested’ in the club.

My inkling is that McVee's contract negotiations are going to force the hand of the club with regards to some more tenured favourites. Judd and others are very keen for more on-the-ball time, they're being kept at arm's length by an older brigade.

Otherwise I think Judd won't have an issue walking. We are crazy if we leave this kid to rot in the backline given his footy IQ and skillset.

I love Judd but he doesn't have the skill set for midfield IMV.

How about they play him how Salem plays,Judds a 2021 version of Salem

Been poor all year, and who can forget that slip that cost us that final in 23, plays like he is gone elsewhere IMV

All players wanting to be in the midfield that aren't currently in there, use the pre-season to work on your deficiencies, and strengthen up on your weaknesses. Judd looks to have a lot of talent, but as a midfielder, he would be too easily pushed off the ball. if he wants to be a midfielder, stop whinging about it, and hit the gym, smash the sprints, work on your core, get your body right, and demand the position in a way Ed Richards has for the Bulldogs. Same goes for any of our younger brigade, there is room to push out the star (so-called) midfield players, but actions speak louder than words.

He doesn't want midfield time

Good piont!

Playing Judd midfield is not a bad idea considering we have nothing to lose as the season is shot. If he wants to go home then we should get a second rounder for him.

I would like him to stay , I think that under a new coach ( probably Buckley ) he will become a better player.

West Coast have been linked to Brisbane Lions premiership hero Callum Ah Chee, according to The West Australian.

The report also linked gun Melbourne defender Judd McVee to the Eagles and Geelong veteran Mitch Duncan, who could head to Western Australia as well to finish off his AFL career.

if he wants to go, what's he worth? this draft is so compromised and, apparently, low on quality, that i would be keen to get a player for him unless we think we need points in 2025 / 2026 for white, sinnema this draft, and then prasad in 2026

I hope we get a 1st rounder then. ANB went for a second rounder and it was criminally unders. I can see McVee will not be recognised as well.

Unfortunately I think he's worth a lot more than what the market will pay.

If he went to the Eagles it'd go like, we ask for a first, West Coast offer their second. We end up accepting the second with a late pick swap as steak knives.

I remember another report last week that he might go to another victorian club so who knows what's actually happening with him.

If anyone is going to the Eagles they are only doing so for purely lifestyle reasons. They still look years off it.

doubly so if harley leaves end of 2026 on the back of oscar allen leaving as a free agent at the end of this season

they're going to have picks 1 and 2 in this draft, plus - probably - be given a start-of-second-round pick as a priority pick

that's four picks inside, say, what will end up being top 30

that won't make them better over the next few years, but it may help them in 2029 onwards

Seems he was seduced by Goodys promise of midfield time, as well as this actually happening late last year. Set to sign after a strong pre season. Does the hammy and hasn’t looked close to the form which would force a midfield move.

Such a frustrating one. He may stay but the bitter part of me is saying we took the chance on him, debuted him against the odds etc. West Coast didn’t want a bar of him.

Players that are unhappy with the position they are asked to play, makes me think of one man.

Do what you have to do for the team. Maybe success may come along.melbourne football club wink GIF by Melbournefc

Think his last month has been a bit better.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
