The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.

Body is letting him down. Needs to get back to full fitness to remain a weapon, though those days may have sadly passed.

Played one hell of a 2021 and GF though. Was one of the many players to step up and help us win #13

Has always struggled after injuries.  Whether it’s psychological, physical fitness or related to his health issues, I don’t believe he’s ever returned from an injury layoff and played as well or better than he did before it.

He's had some good years and his ‘21, including Grand Final, was exceptional, but at 29yo, the clock is ticking!

Fingers crossed he can get some more luck next year!

Feels like last role of the dice. Needs an uninterrupted preseason to see if he can regain form. After that idk, I love Salem as a player but the past couple of years haven't been his best.

A perfect example of a player that should be used on a rotational basis.

His body will not make it through a 27 game season

hasn't been the same since hurting his knee in rd 1, 2022

we need him to play a key role in our side as he is, quite frankly, a key playmaker

if he's not able to maintain fitness for a full season i have concerns over who will take his role - as seen in the 2021 season, we're a helluva lot better team with salem at his best

He still has his moments but seems to have lost a fair bit of confidence and his body. The penetration in his usual 'laser like' kicking has also been lacking over the last couple of years.

Hoping for a TMac like renaissance next year as he there's still plenty he can provide as we continue to blood the next generation.

Christian Salem as mentioned when fit and healthy helps form that critical core of players that make us a very good team, players who are hard to replace. Let’s hope that Christian can string a couple of vintage Salem years together for us as we fight back to relevance.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
