It's time to accept that Van Rooyen won't be a star. I don't read replies or reactions.

Thats really incredibly arrogant.

Perhaps consider whether it's best to post on forums buddy! If you aren't going to listen or put your words out there for scrutiny, why post in the first place?

For what it's worth and keeping to the conversation, I think Van Rooyen will be ok, he might not be an A grade player. He just seems completely off with timing, and his hands are currently concrete. His kicking isn't terrible, and he's competitive in the ruck. Improvement is not always linear. As a comparison, I don't think Jye Amiss is progressing anywhere near as well as he looked like he would be last year either.

Happy to hear your thoughts ? 😁

Tbh .. the only part I think would/should have been different is Kozzies goal.

We weren't winning that game.

IMO
We didn't get anything going our way (or take the simple opportunities) that allowed us to get momentum flowing. Kozzie's goal, the free that Jiath got when one of our players went for the mark, and we got done for a tunnel or push I think, but the replay showed no contact on him except his leg connecting with someones head and him tumbling.... We should have been 3-5 goals up at 3/4 time, but we were wasteful and the umps missed some clear decisions.

Not saying that would have changed the way the final quarter played out btw, but not taking opportunities as they come hurt us badly.

Have we picked up a couple of tall fwds yet to fix a problem that I'd say 99 % of supporters agree on.

That our fwd line has been lacking a big bodied , uninjured, experienced tall player that can compete for the Coleman.

Perhaps we are missing a decent full forward and chf.

In any case our fwd line has cost us possibly two flags and has been a problem very much unprofessionally ignored by the club for three years in a row.

Have the powers to be woken up and done anything about it in the last four months?

Try the last 32 years! We have only had 2 decent key position forwards since then (Neitz and Hogan).

And even now when it is patently obvious that we still don't have a good KPF, the club refuses to look at recruiting one in the mid season draft. Maybe we are gun shy after all the failed attempts at recruiting and developing one

2 questions

A. Do we have a mid season draft pick?

B. Are there any even half decent KPF talls available?

C. (third of two questions) Kenterfield, according to some Casey watchers, seems to be developing quicker than one may have thought, especially given his off season illness - is he built like a KPF, even though he has been playing in defence this year? He was recruited as a hopeful KPF as I recall. I appreciate he will be well underdone atm as I don’t think he has had even one AFL preseason.

I do hope your right about Jvr.

I mean he's shown more than patches of very good form in the past and been a great set shot.

Maybe he toned down his agro due to suspensions and that has had an influence.

I don't know what's happened to him. It has been hard trying to establish oneself as a fwd and then being dragged into the ruck.

A lot of hope for him to be another David S but it's a pretty high bar. And Roo isn't as big.

So much pressure on some young kids that it's easy to lose confidence.

He seems very down . Even his accuracy has gone awry.

He's not a stand and deliver pack park . He's more a mark from lead fwd and I think we never have enough room or delivery is often too slow.

I just hope he becomes at least a decent serviceable player at this point in time.

But expectations have definitely been tempered.

A. Not currently - can change
B. A few worth looking at in the VFL (McMahon, Garoni, Mason) and in the WAFL (Clarke, Hunter, May)
C. Unknown quantity with uninspiring previous goalkicking stats in the WAFL

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
