That is not what everyone is sayyDr. Gonzo they are saying it is strong and deep into the 40’s

If that's the case then definitely would do it

As has been already suggested I’d trade next years first for another first this year and get JT to pick 2 ready to go skilled, quick draftees. If Trac remains unhappy and really wants to go  next year he can go to the highest bidder. That’ll give us 2 good first rounders next year plus our NGA prospect and potentially Kalani White. We’ll then end up with a pretty red hot bunch of youngsters and away we go. If Trac can find peace again (I’m assuming the media reports hold some truth) then we’re still in a strong position. Hold on to your hats Demonlanders this is going to be one hell of a ride 👊💪🏆

We’re missing quality (and volume) in that 25-ish age bracket… particularly ones who use the ball well and move it quickly.

I believe we can get back into contention with some savvy recruiting so I would be trading away draft capital to do this (assuming we can actually attract the players we would like, that is).

Agree with this to an extent. We definitely need a quality 23 - 27 year old (or 100 - 150 game experienced) mid or half back with pace and elite footy skills who can win their own ball to complement Viney, Oliver and Trac but also need to develop our own talent through the draft. I wouldn't be using an early first round pick on a 27 year old but for a proven elite 25 year old it would make sense. We should also be prepared to trade out players to bring in the right talent.

Best way to recruit is to find undervalued young players who haven't been given much of a go. Kind of like how Giants poached Bedford and Swans took Jordon off us. Our recent recruitment strategy of getting old fringe players should really only be used for depth, not where you should be spending second rounders *cough* McAdam *cough*

I heard we're having a look at James Peatling? Big yes.

With top ten picks you only trade them if you have a genuine gun coming. Otherwise back the excellent Jason Taylor in to find the best available player with that pick. A lot of mids around the pointy end of this draft, exactly what we need.

Taylor draft >>> Lamb trade

If we got 4-5 picks, I’d back JT to pick 5 youngsters in the top 40 that would be very handy and play a role in 2025.  The development and maturity of the youngsters is definitely preparing them for AFL footy. Look at the draft of 2023 …16 of the top 20 picks played significant games in 2024, and then 29 of the top 40 had a debut.

Draft for talent. Trade for needs.

100% especially with how even the top 10 are (you could end up with the no1 and 2 picks upon reflection with picks 8 and 10 this year).

Foundations of premierships are via the draft.

We should take our 1st rounder at least to the draft. Pick6/7 may get us an elite long termer.

Mini build as we have a mix of Elite/good and young developing players.

5 -  7 off the list season end including Gus and J Smith.

Yze and Mentha likely to be late/rookie picks this year. Both show potential to develop.

We have a number of young players on the list that show A grade potential including Kosi, Rivers, JVR, Mc Vee, Windsor.

We have others that could develop into very good players. Hoping that Jeffo develops well allowing Petty or Turner to go back.

Next year possible talls in White and A-Mu.

Next year we can loo at a Free agent or trade in.

Sacrifice 2025 for the sake of developing our new young core.

Then trade/recruit those 2 or 3 missing pieces to compete in 2026.

What are the big contracts coming to their final year in 2025?

Viney and Salem?

I like it.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
