Sure, but that’s not the same as using a term like “true supporter” which means absolutely nothing. Also it’s the afls fault and only the afls fault that people with money and or connections can waltz in to grand finals having given very few [censored] about the season or club or whatever.

Being a cheer squad member and as passionate and driven to help as you are I would hope the club would look after you come finals time anyway. I may be wrong.

 

what if in my life time I have been to say on average 10-14 games a year for every season since I could get there myself, but due to whatever reason the last three seasons I haven’t been able to go at all. How should that be measured in the seat getting contest for finals?

 

we should be grateful that we aren’t following an epl side and have to spend hundreds of dollars just to go to any old game. That league truly [censored] it for their fans.

The AFL is not MFC-centric though. We may only get 13k vs 16/17k but if a Carlton or Essendon can pull 50k/60k instead of 30k/40k what do you think the AFL would prefer? If it's against another Vic club that potentially rises again.

I don't want us playing home games at Marvel either but if we draw [censored] crowds to the MCG I think it's inevitable we will be forced to play at least a couple of home games there. At the end of the day we need to show we are viable in a national comp. Home crowds of 13k, 16k or 17k show we are vulnerable.

Wonder what our final home crowd will be. Will both sets of fans be checked out?

This we agree on. It's incumbent upon the coaches to have a team playing to our strengths. To play competitive watchable games that we more often than not, win. To produce healthy crowds to prevent any "moving" of games to Marvel. Because  I'm telling you, you will not get a healthy crowd to a Melb v interstate team (Free, GWS, Port, WC, GC, Adel) in at Marvel and it will be a disaster.

The AFL dont care about a disaster for the MFC. There will  be 19 teams soon, it would solve a few problems if one team fell out. I am sure interstate teams would cry if a Melbourne team went under. I am sure they would

About 10 years ago we played GWS at docklands and drew about 8000 people, a complete money and look disaster, lost approx $120000. too many of those and we will be broke.

If this happens we [ the supporters] can blame nobody but ourselves.

As I wrote in an earlier post about possible moving of home games in favour of more for essendon and carlton at the G, I forget about the 4 games hawthorn will need to relocate in the ending of the Launceston games.

The Club doesn’t decide who gets finals tickets. Our cheer squad operates differently from others. We don’t cap our number of members therefore we have the largest cheer squad in the league. Come blockbusters and finals, not everyone is assured a ticket. Our points system decides who does. The more involved one is the more points one accrues. For every BBQ worked, banner made, raffle ticket bought, working bee attended, the list goes on, we accrue a certain number of points towards qualification. Last year and the year before I qualified for finals tickets, and had we made a prelim or GF, while I like to think I’d qualify for those too, the deeper we go into finals, the smaller the allotment we receive so the odds of getting a ticket dwindle.

My point is, it’s bloody hard to get finals tickets if you can’t afford a GFG or a MacDaddy membership. So I believe even if you can afford such, you should be required to attend a minimum number of H&A games.

I can’t afford these things either. Those peoples financial contributions are very useful for the club, whether they go or not. Basically I think we can say that the AFL are a pack of plonks who have been  tearing at the working class fabric of this game for far too long and it’s now at a ridiculous point in which everyone’s dollar but the fans comes first. Which is a joke, but due to our dedication as fans to our club we get abused by an unelected bunch of you know what’s.

But you're right, it is their right. And we have a lot of stupid supporters. 

The amount that I listen to in the MCC who either have no idea who the players are, or yell kick it when there is clearly no one ahead of the play or clearly marked.

Anyway, good on them.

Can't believe you have heard a Melbourne supporter in the MCC yell. A library in there most weeks.

I kinda loved that last Saturday's crowd was just the diehards and made a good noise for what was probably 16k of us.

I also never said it's not laughable, it's a [censored] reason but I'm just passing on what others are saying. Doesn't stop some of the usual apologists on this forum from having a hissy fit despite them not attending games either.
