This would be a dream scenario for sure, Jagga and Langford!

Is there a world where Langford slides a little due to not having a set position?

Versatility could work against him in an AFL system where roles are assigned very specifically. There’s a number of bigger body/tall mids who have never really cemented themselves

I also wonder with StKilda already having Phillipou is Langford too similar in type. Or if someone trades up for one of StKildas picks will they swoop on another target to get ahead of others or maybe they do it to get their hands on Langford.

It’s unlikely but I dont feel it’s impossible.

Why? All the talk recently is they’re heavily into Smillie and would take him over Jagga if they’re both available.

Jagga is still getting linked to their first pick. It becomes talent that early. They can get their Smillie type like Allen (or in a certain scenario Smillie himself) at 10 or 11.

From today’s Herald Sun:

Highly-rated Victorian midfielder Jagga Smith is looking increasingly certain to be a top-five draft pick next Wednesday, with Harvey Langford shaping as a potential slider to St Kilda’s first selection.

Smith is believed to have strong interest from Carlton (pick 3), Adelaide (pick 4) and Melbourne (pick 5) and is no longer expected to get past the Demons.

Richmond is still favoured to select Sam Lalor at pick 1 but has also weighed up Finn O’Sullivan.

With North Melbourne eyeing Alix Tauru at pick 2, Carlton looks set to have a choice between O’Sullivan, Sid Draper and Smith.

I reckon Carlton take O'Sullivan, Crows take Draper and we choose Smith in this scenario. Blues have to pick O'Sullivan, Walsh's cousin, Crows have to pick Draper SA boy and we pick Smith. Voss going to see Draper is smoke and mirrors. But if they did then Crows take Finn O'Sullivan or a curve ball and take Langford. But I r5eckon JT will take Jagga and hope Langford slides to our next pick.

I’ve had the same thought about Smith and Langford, and as unlikely as it is there are scenarios where we get both

I think it relies on us taking Smith at 5 though as reporting suggests he won’t last past the Saints (whereas this hasn’t been explicitly stated for Langford)

Smilie has been heavily linked to Richmond at 6 so presuming they take him, it would depend on the Saints and their own internal rankings

It’s not impossible that they rate say Tobie Travaglia or Bo Allan higher than Langford, and/or go with a tall such as an Armstrong

More likely they just take Langford with one of their picks, but I’ll be doing cartwheels if not

No chance Saints let Langford get past 7 or 8.

Bad draft choices are always a chance when Stephen Silvagni is your list manager

I've seen this elsewhere as the reason Carlton take FOS, that has to be the dumbest reason ever put forward for a draft selection.

If Smith and Langford were available at our pick, Richmond will offer something over the odds with pick 6 to move to pick 5 so they can select Jagga and we get a pick + Langford.

Nah they'd do a deal with North for pick 2. Richmond's pick 6 and one of their later ones to ensure a Lawlor/Smith double. They won't do that though because Smith or Langford might fall to 6 anyway.

Have heard his name pronounced as both laylor and lawlor, which one is it?

Twomey said Richmond won’t go to 2. Adelaide will move for it if they’re set on Draper.

Shouldn’t ever pick key position players for the sake of it. Harry Armstrong is the best key position prospect, but not a standout by any means. Not to mention his extreme similarities to Jefferson.

Harry seems to be pretty good at finding space in the forward line to receive a quick clean delivery from an elite mid like Smilie, Reid or Ashcroft. This is a valuable skill, but with the defensive structures at AFL level it's a lot harder to find space than in U18s. Furthermore our forward entries are still awful. So I can see him getting burnt and frustrated.

Second cousin too! First cousin is a stretch, second is just silly

Vossy is a contest first coach, I reckon Draper is a real chance

No they don’t. They might, but they don’t have to.

Something like pick 6 and 23 for 5?

Wonder if we'd consider that or just take Jagga ourselves. I'm not wedded to either player so can see the merit if the club can move our pick 79 into the early 20s.

They have us taking Langford and Armstrong

Interestingly they have FOS slipping to the Saints, with Jagga being taken by Carlton

Or a future 2nd or 3rd pick.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
