How exactly does it weaken Melbourne's position though?

Of course Oliver would know. If it's only him and Geelong at the meeting and if he doesn't say anything and it leaks, pretty easy to work that out.

There were multiple meetings I believe. I'm not really across the timelines to be honest, but even still, it's not like it would have been a surprise party to Oliver or his manager.

Multiple meetings now FFD please fill us all in on these multiple meetings Or are you blowing smoke up our backsides to add to the pile-on???

Re the media on Oliver

A few truths

A few half-truths

A number of mis-truths

A number of lies

Heaps of embellishment

For instance ... I do not believe that Pert (and the Board) acted independently to the FD & Playing group.  They all knew

Why?  Because the playing group would be P/O with Oliver so the FD can't side with Oliver.  Pert & the Board know all that

If the FD did side with Oliver then forget about the team playing as a team ongoing.  A toxic situation would arise

But the FD have given Oliver a number of 2nd chances.  But after the Brownlow incident and the 2 missed appointments I reckon they've all had enough

To me, the whole club wants him out but getting him out is darn near impossible because of the $10Million Contract

Would Oliver take a paycut?  Maybe but how much?

Macca what are the two missed appointments, with his surgeon, with his nutritionist, with his physio, with Mackie and what happened Brownlow night, did he drink to much, was he rowdy, did he make a pass at someone’s girlfriend, was he being annoying. To refer to unknown incidents like they are common knowledge serves what purpose. Is it truth or gossip??

I hope the club makes a complaint to the AFL and threatens to sue the Age for this rubbish , enough is enough.

I don't think suing them would be viable.  And really, the only regulatory body that covers press, The Australian Press Council, are as weak as [censored].  Unlike broadcast and digital media, there is no government regulator for press, only a voluntary industry regulatory body, which is akin to being slapped with a wet towel at the beach if you breach any of their regulations.  It's why they're able to get away with so much.

Based on what?  Some unverified rumous?  Please.

And for that you'd prefer to through the baby out with the bathwater while he's in the middle of negotiating, for the first time in decades, a viable option for a home base, with no back up plan to run a multimillion dollar organisation.  Are you one of the ones the other day on Demonland saying "Ooh, Jimmy Bartel could be good as CEO!" Yeah, like a degree in social work is going to be useful....

Let’s face it IF Clayton Oliver and Gary Pert remain at our club and Melbourne bounce back in 2025 there are going to be a lot of so called Media personalities And Supporters with Egg on their faces and dented credibility and Egos.

Are you really sure you want to run with that?  It's been reported in the media.  Please.  Morris is notoriously way off the mark majority of the time.

I was increasingly worried that maybe there was something to this.
But now we know Damien Barrett hates him so much I think he has to stay on. If only to make Barrett look like the [censored] he is.

It's been reported in the media that he had multiple meetings. I'm not sure why you constantly go on the attack against any kind of critical information.

9 News Melbourne journalist Tom Morris on Tuesday night reported Oliver felt “hurt by being pushed out” – which is what led to a meeting with Geelong chief executive Steve Hocking and football boss Andrew Mackie earlier in the day. Morris added: “I’m told the meeting went very well.”

The Age on Wednesday reported Oliver then had a second secret meeting with the Cats on Tuesday, travelling to Rhys Stanley’s farm to catch up with the Geelong ruck and vice-captain Tom Stewart.

Fresh details behind Demons sounding out rivals over Oliver emerge as greats call for trade

Media Shmedia i no longer believe anything they write or espouse against our club. We need to sort the wheat from the chaff and that’s being polite.

No I wasn’t although I think Bartel would be great in a football roll. I don’t see replacing Pert as throwing out the baby more like getting a new pram.

Your inability to ever critique the club, and constant grandstanding honestly just removes any credibility in your stance(s).

‘Notoriously’ way off? Guessing you live and work in a binary world then?

Who knows what's actually going on. But if he's dead keen to leave, and so keen that he's willing to take a pay cut, surely that works in our favour.

A pay cut would mean a completely new contract wouldn't it? Which would mean his contract with us was mutually agreed to be terminated. Which means he goes to Geel as a free agent. So the full contract would be off the books plus pick 6 or whatever it is in free agent compo. That could be a win win scenario.

Well his track record is abysmal and the info about the Brownlow & 2 missed appointments didn't come from the media (maybe afterwards?)

As far as I'm concerned he was on notice so he should 100% be keeping his nose out of trouble.  Be the Professional

Again, I'm putting aside his football abilities because if he was an average player he'd be long gone

Long after players are gone or retired the club will still be around.  And what goes before sets the standard for tomorrow

That's up to you. You can choose to have a critical eye on what's reported and take on board what has evidence, or you can put your head in the sand and your fingers in your ears. I believe that currently there's a segment of our supporter base that is a lot like our club, it's in denial and unable to face any kind of hard truths and appropriately deal with them. I will leave it at that as I honestly find the over the top attacks on the media a bit tiresome.

Please spare me FFD over the years I have seen a heap of [censored] written by the so called experts in the press only to find out it was based on disgruntled gossip, self serving story lines and this is the poorest crop of media personalities in living memory their isn’t a gram of credence or credibility among them. My head FFD isn’t in the sand, it is reading between the lines seeing people post exaggerated Acct of self serving drivel and getting away with it. I say hold firm MFC stand your ground complete your reviews, implement your findings, press on with securing Caulfield and to hell with the termites  that surround US.

You guys don’t like anyone that takes the opposite stance do you BLWNBA, not everyone agrees with you or the old burn the place down because I’m not happy.

As you’re the one asserting a mistruth, or claims of libel, the onus is actually on you to suggest otherwise. But given you’re essentially wanting to impart some obscure, reverse onus, I would suggest to you that there is enough on the balance of probabilities to indicate much of what is reported is accurate to the extent the information is available.

Do you want to proceed with tendency examples?

Show some critical thinking, it may hold you in good stead. Once again, your inability to critique the club says volumes.

I’d say a combination of two. Andrew Mackie comes across as seriously shifty.

I think he has always stayed loyal to the cattery, hasn't he?  Yes, he does.

Yeah, how dare parties disagree on a forum. Next you’ll bring out the timeless classic “supporters support” line.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
