We should play Oliver as a tagger (although watching Daicos accelerate after disposing of the ball, I am not sure he will get close).

What about turning Sparrow into a tagger / defensive mid? Does nothing else and has probably hit his ceiling already

he doesn't have the pace nor the workrate

at 24 he should be entering the peak of his midfield powers

instead, he looks headed for the vfl with his lack of effort

Not wrong was expecting some sort of comeback but alas zip though we get the pies at the right time with their injuries.

Same here.

One thing I have admired is our never say die attitude.

But we didn't have it here .

He didn't apply a single tackle.

He occasionally plays a solid game but rarely strings a few of them together.

We should have focused more on Jordan and pushed Sparrow out.

For a team that was famous for it's midfield and made history with it's bang bang bang moments, we have suddenly found this to be one of our biggest weaknesses. Smashed by more than double in the clearances.

Combined with a fwd line that could not kick more than fifty points we have become a shadow of last year's form.

Oliver and Sparrow are struggling big time this year and JV looks slower and seems to be less involved. And on occasion we have moved Tracca forward. And as good as Tracca is, for some reason he often takes at least two quarters to start impacting games.

What are you talking about?
I saw Maynard take out Angus with the Full Shoulder and Execute.

Whether the Coach gave instructions or not is irrelevant

Correct me by showing me your original post.

I replied on the basis that you stated McCrae told Maynard to do it.

As I said..regardless of AFL mischief he should have been suspended and ,at the time  ,that he probably wouldn't be.

I am happy to apologise if you show your post.

I do think it's old news though in any case

You go and find it

Stop putting words in my mouth

Clarrie will come good.  It's most likely not going to be this year though.

No preseason to speak of and other issues distracting for 6+ months.

Ok I have found my first reply that shows your post and I was completely mistaken.

Wrong and I apologise

Yes thankyou.

It's almost libellous ( as we are so often warned)

I am just going with embarrassing, though I can't imagine what would happen if it was said on here about say,  Viney and Goodwin.

I could have better observed that the idea of Melksham arising from the ashes as the saviour resembles Petty going forward for a few weeks and resolving long term forward issues.

As it happens I' m a fan of both and would find a spot for Maynard if he was available!!!!!

You're in lala land if you think we have a chance against the Pies next week. Even with all their injuries they are a club with heart and pride, something sorely lacking at the MFC for 60 years.

Agree with you except I have faith for 1 last time in Max and Jack dragging the team along effort-wise. They can only do it so often.

Well that's because in done in Confidence as they are in discussions with Glen Eira Council and state government that's not hard to understand.

How about telling us they are in discussions with these groups?

without telling us the details?

They have said they are in discussions, this is not an easy project especially dealing with Glen Eira Council  and all the different sporting groups trying to be there as well.

I have no idea what he went through in the off season but this is so disappointing... supposed to be our best mid ever in his prime and with a team in the window... no we are free falling back to the pack and the likes of Viney Maxy and May are getting to the end

Right - you have no idea .

The real issue is the back line that has saved the mids and forwards for the last 3 seasons has finally cracked.

Geez they've been good but it had to end eventually

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
