Laurie is a small forward with no real pace but has footy smarts. Perhaps that’s he only real position.  Hes not a midfielder imv

Or an AFL level talent.

Moniz has so many possessions because he is running hard with the 1-2 and linking up. Sadly he isn’t the one who ends up kicking inside 50. Great half of footy.

Seaston played Q1 inside 50 and now playing Trac/ANB roll of being around the contest and running forward in Q2 and being a difference maker.

billings on the wing. Playing nice. Nothing to report, he’s a nice player. He can kick a football and run

Laurie had a great Q1. He’s in and around, just not getting it (mainly as White is a man possessed in the centre).

B Brown hasn’t really been targeted.

Jeffo been looking really dangerous (just took another pack mark as I wrote this). He’s playing on a defender in Keelor who has been good today, but not a great defender.

Kolt - fades in and out. Considering the number of first round picks out there, he’s certainly one of the best of them.

Verrall is getting beaten but you can see he can play.

Adams - he’s been ok. But someone needs to be Membry and if it was Tomlinson or Turner, they’d be on him. Adams isnt. So read into that as you will.

k Brown - good Q2. Rotating mid, and forward.

Agree, but one can see you have no forwards present but they just kick without understanding they need to hold it up till the forwards get back it's just playing on for the sake of it, it's bad coaching full stop.

Yes agreed.  That's when you need to hit 45s or laterals.  Possibly even behind as a last resort if no other options.

As mentioned, many players miss this aspect for some reason and just blaze away regardless of what's in front.  Although some are under so much pressure they have little time to assess and they just have to dump kick.  Not ideal but its the nature of the game

Great to see Valentine back.  He adds a bit of solidity to the back line imho.

AMW 18 disposals 1 tackle

Commentator sounds like Slug Jordan.

Casey’s lack of poise costing them a semi-substantial lead.

We definitely seem to be playing a fast get it forward game at Casey. I don't mind it as a development game as it's sink or swim if you have the skills.

How you build in that last kick into 50 is a challenge with this style particularly if the side is bereft of fast moving/small forwards.

At least you can see the germ of an idea. I prefer it to the long kick boundary game of previous years as far as skill development goes

Absolutely DJ.  You hit the nail on the head with lack of mobile small / medium forwards to present and clean up.

Moniz is one of those options imho but doing very well at HB so far.  Bill the other of course

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
