We’ll need a top 5 pick for the best of those types @whatwhat say what…O’Sullivan, Draper & Smith leading the pack (of quick, skilled mids) at this stage.

Where is Murphy Reid expected to go? Having a pretty impressive champs it seems

He’s met 17 clubs; been told by one if they have pick 12 they’ll take him.

great kid, having a fabulous year, would be a great get for us. Elite “time” a bit Pendlebury like

Has gone from a 15-20 range player to busting into the 10 on the back of his Championship form.

Harry Armstrong caught the eye too, this year’s Metro v Country clash should be another ripper.

That's strangely specific, if they have pick 11 or 13 are they not going to take him?

I think thought was 12 was high for him. But he’s rising. Only meeting not done is Tigers and he’s a mad Tigers fan, but Yze watches every game of school footy as Noah in same team.

Anybody got a good link to watch replays of the champs? My Foxtel box isn’t recording at the min. Have tried it from the AFL app but it keeps saying the stream is over 2 mins in. Not up on YouTube yet either.
Im not exactly a wiz with technology but it seems harder than it should be.

Thanks Chaser- I was trying ( with little success) to stream it through my phone onto TV via that page. I’ll try it with the laptop tonight.

SA is now finished. Wrap up as …

Father sons- Tyler Welsh (Crows), Ben Camporeale, Lucas Camporeale (blues)

Port Adelaide NGA products – Benny Barrett from South Adelaide and North Adelaide’s Louie Montgomery. Both could go top 40 or be available for Port

️Sid Draper - star midfielder.  Captain and top 5 draft pick

👏Kade Herbert - impressed in 2023 as an underager.  Showed this year he is strong in the contest and can also play outside with good delivery and run in his legs. Some draft posters see him as a 35-45 pick. I’d have him around 24th/25th pick.

Phoenix Hargrave - mid/half forward. Likely top 35-40 pick

Charlie Nicholls - 197cm key forward . Excellent mark   Likely pick 45-50

Ned Bowman - half fwd skilled creative goalkicker. Likely late draft pick, perhaps 50-55.

Jett Hasting - SA mid/half back runner SA-eagles - likely late pick or rookie. I like his run and dash and style   Type of player that has AFL qualities in my view (like McVee from 2021)

Melbourne NGA prospect Ricky Mentha lining up for the Allies in today's game against vic country.

Riak Andrew, brother of Mac and former Melbourne NGA players is playing for vic country as an overage player. Fairly certain we don't have any rights to him anymore given we passed over him last year but will stand to be corrected there.

How sad. Really puts footy in to perspective.

That’s horrible @Pennant St Dee, thoughts with all affected. Terrible news.

This draft is very strong and I’d like to see the Dees find room for 4 or even perhaps 5 draft picks this year.
                                   …

@Whispering_Jack Langford is definitely a player that would be on JTs list.  There is a lot of quality midfielders going down to picks in the second round and even early third round. I’ll look to do a top 50 by next weekend.

I’d even by open to trade our 2025 1st round to get another 2024 first round pick. I’d call the GC suns to discuss.

WA wrap up

A weaker WA under 18 squad this year. I think only 3-4 youngsters will get drafted in the main draft , perhaps with a few through the rookie draft where identified.

️Bo Allan. I only saw him in the game v  He just has a footy IQ to get the right space and position. Good skills and size for a midfielder. His energy and transition running will see him strongly considered. Expect him to go pick 19-22 as early 2nd round pick

👏Luke Urquart. Big blonde bulldozer of a midfielder. Like a Cripps type, he goes into the contest and wins the footy. Skills were okay but let him down on occasion. He should be drafted but likely will be a pick in the 40s.

Malakai Champion.  He’s exciting no doubt.  But I was expecting more and he’s not a top 50 player for me.  Late draft or rookie chances.

Cody Angove.  Project type.  Exciting runner and pace on the footy.  Likely late draft pick as his skill is up to AFL quality which gives him a chance.   Could a side take a chance

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
