The AFL has released the names of restricted and unrestricted free agents for this year.

Unlikely that other clubs are going to go after anyone on this list although Marty Hore is one who could potentially attract interest if he continues on his current trajectory. He is definitely a much improved player over the one who left the club at the end of 2021.

Probably of more interest to Demon fans is the list of free agents from the 17 other clubs.

I think Tomlinson will be snapped up by another club if he continues to be in and out the side.

Hugh McCluggage is only 26 and would be a very handy acquisition without the draft cost.

I guess Andrew McGrath as well but for some reason he just doesn't excite me.

Next year is the big one for our needs, with De Konig and Xerri available as peak-age rucks and a few high quality tall defenders also around. Fingers crossed the right ones stay open. Oh, and of course, Andrew Brayshaw.

Surely Hugh McCluggage and Oliver Florent might be worth a look?

Certainly.

Hardwick worth a conversation as a Gus replacement. Made his name as a small back which is a need. Can push upto wing/mid and was even drafted as a small forward from the U18.

27yo -150 games

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
