As much as I like the Swans to win this year’s flag (and then disappear next year like the last two AFL premiers), I’ve just recovered my urge to do some death riding.

If Port Adelaide can reproduce the form of Round 21 against the Swans, our current pick 38 will shoot up the charts to pick 36. Who knows what that little extra edge might deliver us in the hands of JT (in who we trust)?

Hopefully Jason Taylor can work his magic.

Ideally, we should aim for 2 or even 3 picks in the top 20. But that's probably wishful thinking unless we can do some deals with Brisbane and/or Gold Coast to give them various picks for points.

In light of what some are suggesting will be a barrage of pick swaps in the next couple of days, it’s worth looking at the current draft picks held by each of the clubs at this moment in time.

It gives perspective to the mooted swap deal between Melbourne and Essendon because, as we can see, the Bombers don’t have much of a hand to fight off a challenge for their NGA player Isaac Kako and to get seriously involved in trading. To that end, the Demons’ future first plus #28 and #40 strengths their hand considerably.

Adelaide: 4, 46, 64
Brisbane: 32, 34, 42, 43, 45, 60, 66
Carlton: 12, 14, 69, 72, 73
Collingwood: 36, 52, 55
Essendon: 9, 31
Fremantle: 10, 11, 18, 30, 67
Geelong: 17, 38, 57, 75
Gold Coast: 6, 13, 23, 29, 41, 50, 78
GWS: 15, 16, 21, 37, 53, 56, 74
Hawthorn: 33, 71, 77
Melbourne: 5, 28, 40, 49, 54, 65

So dumb question, do we need a later pick to upgrade from our rookie list?

No.  You just upgrade and get a vacancy at the rookie draft A.    Rookie B is separate again.

Ah thanks!  Makes sense

I'm really tired of Melbourne having minimal picks in a draft, it's always 2-3 tops. This has been the case for the majority off drafts in the last 5 years.

We have at least 5 list spots to fill and we already gave up next year's first so where is the capital? It's annoying seeing other clubs with big hauls. i'd look to split 9 for 2 picks in the teens

  • NON-MFC: Round 10

The Sir Doug Nicholls Round kicks off in Darwin with a Top 4 clash between the Suns and the Hawks. On Friday night the Swans will be seeking to rebound from a challenging start to the season, while the Blues have the Top 8 in their sights after their sluggish start. Saturdays matches kick off with a blockbuster between the Collingwood and Kuwarna with the Magpies looking to maintain their strong form and the Crows aiming to make a statement on the road. The Giants aim to reinforce their top-eight status, while the Dockers will be looking to break the travel hoodoo. The sole Saturday game is a critical matchup for both teams, as the Bulldogs strive to cemet their spot in the top six and the Bombers desperately want break into the 8. Sundays start with a bottom 3 clash between the Tigers and Kangaroos with both teams wanting to avoid the being in wooden spoon contention. The Round concludes with the Eagles still searching for their first win of the season, while the Saints look to keep their finals hopes alive with a crucial away victory.
