Not sure how this is possible.

Perhaps he means actual time on the ground (?) But what would be the point of noting that fact?

Did they blow the siren to start last quarter before they went off?

Good question. I don’t think so. When they resumed it was the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Reckon the AFL need to have a quiet word with Ooze to tell Marb Chol to stop going into marking contests knee first every time

May and now Stewart

Didn't realise that Ooze was coaching Hawthorn.

Point made was fair enough.

Stewart very unlucky not to get a free kick and he too, could have been seriously injured.

Be nice to see Chol take the front position.

I have to admit it’s pleasing to see some of the new young players shine. Not only is Caleb Windsor showing his pace and skill is a big addition , but Blake Howes (pick 40 in 2021 and now just game 4) and Judd Mcvee (rookie pick and now in his 2nd senior year ) are showing great signs.

Some always dismiss later draft picks or rookie picks because they historically have lower success rates.  But there’s always diamonds to be found sometimes in players who unbelievably drift down the draft board or get over looked until given a chance.

In this round for example , for the Blues, Jack Carroll (pick 41, 2021 draft) has been finally given his chance and looks comfortable to start to secure a more regular spot.  Luke Ryan (pick 66, 2017) is now one of the first picked at Freo and a key defensive player.  Nic Martin was overlooked in 3 drafts then got his chance at 21yo (SSP 2022)  in the weekend was BOG for the bombers, whilst Riley Bonner delisted by the Power was probably one of the Saints best, using his run and skill off half back. Finally yesterday James Worpel (pick 45, 2017) was BOG even in the Hawks loss and just knows how to win and use the footy.  Yes it’s nice to get top 10 picks, but there’s always diamonds to be found as well in other picks.

A warning. Pendlebury.  Hawkins.  It’s the name that determines the penalty.  McPhuggleman or Kosinski or other such no name player would get suspended for one week for Pendles action or a fine of a few grand for Hawkins misdemeanor.

Aren't clubs warned about this as part of the official AFL rules already? So a second warning then?

I like Laura Kane and think she's a breath of fresh air, but this is just muddying the issue more. I know in previous years the AFL would just double down on any decision but that's what you have to do. You can't be going around undermining your own umpires saying they've got it wrong on something even the fans are debating about.

He is but having a phone on during a game is illegal for players and coaches.

Yet if he had one of the iPads showing game bits it’d not even be commented on!

Saints to face the Tigers without Lynch, Balta and Baker.

It seems that no one actually protects themselves in marking contests any more.

Just looked at the replay, and Melican jumps with his knee up but then straightens his leg, so that Baker can hit him front on.
If he did have his knee up, or heaven forbid, his leg straight out, would he then be reported for contact to Baker?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
