Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yep, you're right that is curious Sparrow with zero CBAs. I didn't clock that.

Cant imagine he is carrying anything, otherwise surely he would have been subbed off.

And his TOG was 77%, ahead (just) of similar players in Salo, Viney and Clarry, so they weren't managing him.

Thanks for bringing this up on the pod @binman (and apologies my username is a bit of a tongue twister!).

George makes a fair bit of sense that we were going head to head our bulls against their bulls and he’s right that they had Bont and Libba in all day with Treloar at most as well. They did spread it a bit though with a few others (see below). IMG_8403.thumb.jpeg.d0faa0aed8ad8e3b78eefa8d2b5088ca.jpeg
I still think it’s strange we didn’t have Sparrow in for 5 or 6 at any stage. We were basically 2 bulls out of Oliver, Trac & Viney in with one outside mid being Salem at most with Kozzie in for 7.

I would’ve thought we could afford Sparrow in there as the second bull at times to give the others a rest but maybe it wasn’t so much us matching against their bulls as us not giving them a chance to rest Bont and Libba?

I’d expect if McGuinness goes to Oliver again we’d see him push forward and Sparrow might get a look in this week, and just more general spreading the  load with the hawks not having the firepower the dogs do.

14 marks i50 this week which is where I like to see it. That plus a free (presumably) gave us 15 set shots which we kicked 8.5 from. Much easier game when you can find targets, although we also took some big marks which might not have otherwise come off.

Reversal of roles this week with Salem 0 CBAs and Sparrow 14/64%. Salem also 96% possessions in the defensive half. Would be expected I guess given we had 2 defenders go down, but given the 0 CBAs it was clearly in the plan from the start. It also helped Sparrow get into the game more than he was last week.

Round 2, 2024 MCG - Hawks vs Demons

Forward line - Mids/others clicking  Focus on 'Team' first selfless principles

More fun & enjoyment, Relaxed Group = Improved Perf

Team performance off a tad from the previous week but i suspect that's the fallout from the May & Lever issue so no issues here unless one or more are out for months or worse.  Bottom 6 in particular but that rating was impacted substantially by the above issue also and is no doubt an outlier from the norm.

Clarry's rating impacted by the tag but still a very solid game from the champ all things considered.  Some of the boys are in some pretty serious form here in general over the last two weeks 👏

Demon scoring efficiency...

Disposals Per Goal  25.71
% In50s Goal 25.50
Conversion % 60.90

One of Tracc's best games in the red & blue?

25 effectives @ 86%, 6 clearances, 8 inside 50s, 3 tackles, 11 score involvements (most on the day - both teams), 3 intercepts, 1 goal, 2 one percenters (what was the other one!?), 5th in pressure points & 463 meters gained.

Sparrow bounces back with a huge turnaround on last week's rating (20th) coming in at No.2!

16 Effectives @ 80%, 2 one percenters, 3 clearances, 4 inside 50s, 7 tackles (most on the day - both teams), 6 score involvements, 3 intercepts, 1 goal, 3rd in pressure points & 319 meters gained.

Another solid rating from Langdon.  Rivers getting back to his 2023 best?  ANB & Pickett stepping up on their 2023 results in a big way.  Fritta also having his best game for some time.  While not expecting 5 snags every week, let's hope he can maintain something close to that form.

What's happened to Rivers ?

Stats are plummeting as above

Is he injured?

Possibly recouping from a niggle early on Kent?

Vs the Hawks he improved (at least statistically) posting a 2023 level rating.

Not near his best but an improvement on the first two weeks yes?

I also thought he got more involved as the match wore on.  Maybe just a slow start form wise?

He doesn't appear to have the break away run & carry side to the level we witnessed on a number of occasions last year just yet.

Doesn't seem that far away either though.

Someone else on here might have some intel.

Round 3, 2024 Adelaide Oval - Power vs Demons

Demon scoring efficiency...

Disposals Per Goal  21.00
% In50s Goal 33.00
Conversion % 71.40

The last time we were that efficient & effective up forward was Rnd 7, 2023 vs the Kangas. (19 / 34 / 76)

Not taking much notice of the team rating here as this was a super high pressure game against a quality opponent.  All that matters in the end is the scoreboard in these type of matches imv.

Big M takes out the No.1 rating honours and by a fair margin.  Ahead of Rivers, Tracc and ANB.  What a game from ANB who i would rate as probably BOG, just ahead of Maxy.  Thoughts?

Let's take a little more in depth look at both of these legends...

Maxy;  11 effectives @ 55%, 1 contested mark, 3 one percenters, 6 clearances, 3 rebounds, 5 tackles (2 inside 50), 8 score involvements (the most for us on the night), 6 intercepts, a massive 17 hit outs to advantage, 377 meters gaines, 1 goal and a miserly 2 turnovers.  What a game from the big fella.

ANB;  16 effectives @ 67%, 1 mark inside 50, 2 one percenters, 1 clearance, 1 rebound, 5 inside 50s, 6 tackles, 7 score involvements, 5 intercepts, 381 meters gained, 2 goals and 6 turnovers (equal highest for us on the night with Lever which would have effected his rating somewhat).

That's some rating from Rivers and a hopefully a great sign of things to come, blitzing his 2023 season rating (his best season so far) by 18%!

While a fair way off his 2023 rating, i thought Clarry played a fabulous gutsy second half, effectively with a bung hand!

Thanks DD Wow Max, Riv, Alex, Chin & TMac we’re off the charts tonight, as you mentioned it was more of an even spread across the ground with everyone chipping in when required. JV fully tagged, Tracc & Clayton shaded by the Port mids but so critical in the clinches when really needed and Sparrow and Lingers getting more involved. That last quarter and the last 7 minutes in particular had ‘21 all over it.!!

Yes i feel it was up there with some of our best wins since 21 DZ.

The others for mine were the come back against the Blues with Kozzy kicking the winner in 22.  And Melk's winning mark & goal against the Lions in 23.  Loved Vin's goal from ANB's HB after his clever body work and spin out of trouble in this one!

Attack from stoppage down i suspect due to Viney under done and Clarry with only one hand.  Viney's our number 1 extractor and a fully fit Clarry (other hand plus uninterrupted pre-season) would surely be No.2

Hopefully we can get Clarry's hand back to some sort of normality pronto.

With Gus out our 'managed' options here are limited otherwise you'd have to seriously think about giving him next week off plus the bye to try and get it right for the next leg.

Maybe time to bring in the Kolt for his debut but probably too early?

@WheeloRatings do you have quarter-by-quarter figures for CPs, clearances and ground ball gets? If so, did we get beaten in each of those in the last quarter? It felt like when we hit the fitness wall late we started to struggle in those areas and I wonder whether the numbers looked better for all three stats until late?

We won stoppage clearances in the last quarter, but lost contested possessions, centre clearances and ground ball gets.

Howdy DZ.  All good thx for asking.

Super late on this weeks as i had a wedding road trip to travel to in Bowral and back (from Melb).  I was thinking about bringing the laptop to complete while i was here but the potential fallout with me lil stormcloud probably wouldn't have ended so well!

Chowing down in the Beechworth bakery right now 😅

I'll get this done and up by this evening. Hope all's well at your end.

Thanks DD hope you had a great time in Bowral, the Beechworth Bakery sounds mouth watering as well. Enjoy the rest of your trip home. All good down this way the two wins in 5 days has really made the weekend very very enjoyable indeed.!!

Round 4, 2024 Adelaide Oval - Crows vs Demons

Amazing stuff from the boys playing away against the two Adelaide clubs in consecutive weeks off a 5 day break.

Ripping start to the year from CP5 coming in with the No.1 rating for the third time in five matches!  26% higher than his 2023 rating.

McVee hits the big time with the No.2 rating, blitzing his 2023 rating by a massive 78% and cracking the top five rated players for his first time in the red & blue.  His highest result so far, knocking off his Rnd 3, 2023 rating vs the Swans of 3.425

Lets take a look at some of his outstanding work against the Crows...

19 effectives @ 95%, 1 contested mark, 2 one percenters, 6 rebounds, 1 inside 50, 4 score involvements, 10 intercepts (second most on the night behind Keane with 11), 416 meters gained and 4 turnovers.

The incredible Iron Man "May" comes in at No3. which is quite astounding under the circumstances.  To post a result 22% up on his 2023 average player rating is just ridiculous given the injury cloud.

Maxy posting a VG rating given the 5 day turnaround and what he produced the week before.  Sparrow another solid performance, 25% up on 2023!

Notable performances from Chandler & T-Mac again.  Fritta solid but his Rnd 3 performance vs the Hawks still the best for him so far with a 3.425

Viney still doing well also under a cloud.  Clarry suffering the effects of a (soft?) tag and that hand injury it seems!

Our bottom 6 players improving on their performance against the Power which might be an indication of some "learnings" on the road?

Player Rating Rank 2023 Season Rating % Change vs 2023

Thanks DD fantastic effort to get these stats up so quickly, what a fabulous result for Judd McVee, Tracc is in Brownlow form, Max and Steven May unbelievable, JV, Sparrow and Chandler helping Tracc cover for Clayton playing injured. Windsor is playing like an No.1 pick. Overall a great team effort and a great team result. Also the Demonland Votes were all on the money.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
