Whats the best way to keep in touch with the Dees while overseas?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

On Sunday May 27, I'll be missing my first MFC match in Melbourne since round 5 2001 as I'll be in Hong Kong for the weekend.

I feel kind of guilty abandoning the boys in their hour of need, and that I could very well miss our first win for the year. So I ask the well travelled folk of Demonland, whats the best way of keeping track of the live coverage?

- log into Demonland and view the game day thread?

- Listen to the radio coverage?

- Watch the game live through afl.com from an internet cafe or hotel room (is that possible and do you need Broadband)?

For the people that go to the game, enjoy it and hope the boys bring you home their first win for the year (unless we beat West Coast  )

Help appreciated!!!

**Mods you can move this to general discussion if need be**

When I was in Hawaii and Thailand I listened to the radio feed on afl.com.au

The Australian Network (formerly ABC-AsiaPacific) is a cable TV station that operates throughout the APac region and shows 2-3 live AFL games on a weekend. Not sure where you're staying but most of the major hotel chains carry it. Plenty of pubs will also put it on if you ask them around Wanchai or Central (where other ex-pats tend to hang out).

You can check the schedule at http://australianetwork.com/ although they tend not to put the proposed games up until a week before.

Good Luck.

oh yeah, good point Fatty

I caught a couple of live games on that channel in Thailand as well

Youd be very lucky if it were a Demons game though

As an overseas demon, the best bets are:

1. Matchday live on AFL.com.au. The live audio feed gives you the radio coverage of the game.

2. Check the pay TV coverage - in Europe, the Eurosport 2 channel has a weekly package, but being in Thailand there may be something better. But even when the Dees run hot, we rarely get any coverage (guess who gets all the TV time??), and at the moment, there is little hope of coverage.

3. Log into Demonland and 'ology for a wide variety of opinion either during, or just after the game. The result determines the flavor!

4. Live video feed from AFL.com.au is not possible, and delayed coverage is available to international subscribers or bigpond members in Aust. Not plausible for one weekend.

5. The time difference is not that great, but keep it in mind for start / finish times for the match.

6. Don't feel guilty - enjoy yourself and catch up with the scores around your social program!

Have a good trip!

GAMEDAY: Rd 11 vs St. Kilda

It's Game Day and after 2 losses on the trot the Dees must win against the Saints today at the MCG to keep in touch with the Top 4. A loss today will see them drop out of the Top 8 for the first time since 2020.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

POSTGAME: Rd 10 vs West Coast

Many warned that this was a danger game and the Demons were totally outclassed all game by a young Eagles team at Optus Stadium in Perth as they were defeated by 35 points.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.
