I assume that is why there is no training today. A number of players seem to be taking a break this weekend. Perhaps a last holiday before the Premiership tilt.

Perhaps getting in some practice for this Thursday’s 2024 Coterie Golf Day at Heritage Golf and Country Club in Chirnside Park. At $325 per person you can expect not a lot of regular people signing up.

Similarly the 2024 Coterie MFC Season Launch will take place on February 22nd and is  $300 a head. I’m at a point now where if an event has the word ‘coterie’ in the title I don’t read any further. 😆

Just got the email… Season Launch tix are $300 not $320. Still beyond my means though 😭

Thanks rjay. The info on not using the Sub ( Schache ) is not I believe made up. It’s been floated in circles widely and frankly it’s believable knowing how stubborn Simon has been on making moves.  If i you agree thst you would have changed Tommy then things are done for a reason to try and win.

I have played sport at Club level and captained cricket teams. Making bowling changes is a top priority and it’s just the same as this. No change attempted you never know but you inside I know it’s got to be done in an attempt  to change things up and make life more difficult to the opposition.

Growing up as a parent if your child did not like something the best to one yo do was look at making a change u to I improve matters. That's all this is a perfectly easy move to help the team and look at it as a great opportunity to improve matters on the forward line.

As for WCW being sick of this topic clearly she doesn’t understand sport ( footy in this case) and surprisingly rude enough to say she is sick of the matter and then denigrate Josh Schache as a player is a very disappointing event.

In addition she does not realise her posts on many occasions on some topics are extremely long and boring lecturing others as she believes she has divine right to. This has to be said on this occasion.

As you know WCW no one makes you read other people’s posts if you don’t want to.

This is my  last post on this matter but I have a feeling it may not be the last by a D/Ler.

Some of us always like the last word!!!

Go Dees in 2024.

I think you misinterpreted WCW' s comments regarding Schac he.

He most definitely did. I get bagged on occasion for blindly defending our players and coaches (which I unashamedly do) so I’m hardly gonna denigrate one of them, especially Josh who cops enough sch!tt from many as it is.

The reason the prices are so high for those events is purely to raise money for the club - Coterie is a not for profit organisation.

No different to the bloke at Geelong who shells out $30,000 when asked for a new hyperbaric chamber but in return gets to have a beer with Danger and Chris Scott half an hour after each home game to discuss tactics etc.

this whole 'goodwin is inflexible' narrative is clearly incorrect

since the premiership year he has:

  • had to try multiple different forward structures with our injuries / loss of players including playing the game's premium ruckman and inspirational skipper max gawn as a deep forward
  • adjusted our midfield mix due to injury to one of the best midfielders ever seen in red and blue
  • rotated brayshaw from wing to half back to midfield
  • rotated pickett from being our best and most defensive small forward into an occasional midfielder
  • rotated rivers our best running half-back flanker into an occasional midfielder
  • rotated petracca our best inside / out midfielder forward to try and get our 'connection' working
  • dropped a two-time all-australian ruckman because his role wasn't working in our side in the year in which he was recruited

simmon stubborn? myth!

Oh, I realise the money goes to the Club. Doesn’t mean I can’t lament not being able to attend.

Possibly it’s not like her but she said she was clotheslining and queried whether hi is Goodenough as he continually gets criticised. She hardly defended him in IMO as she was completely over the discussion of the Sub.

Exactly

All the rest of it is just a made up story (conspiracy theory)

He might have been cover for T-Mac as well but taking T-Mac off was a risk as even a proppy T-Mac plays in front, competes and is capable of creating separation and kicking a goal or 2 ... once you take him off that's it and then we're left with Schache

But again, Schache really was the cover for Gawn and if Gawn had have gone down, we needed cover as T-Mac going into the ruck full time would have left us short in the forward line

All a load of  conjecture and far too much if this and if that.
Schache was the SUB and as is usual should be selected to come on the ground who ever comes off. IF NOT he should not be selected as the Sub in the first place.

End of story. Please  Don’t try and come up with other illogical conclusions as it doesn’t work that way.

We've had a 2 ruck policy for at least the last 4 years but Schache was not deemed to be best 22.  And I believe we went with the 22 (and all the rotations) with Schache as the reserve 2nd ruck (if needed)

And we've got history as James Jordon didn't get any minutes at all in the 2021 GF

Schache wasn't going to make much of a difference anyway if his previous form was any indication

But as a reserve ruckman if Gawn broke down, that's a smart play

It's one sub, you make it sound like the sub was going to be some sort of difference maker where in actuality, they are not good enough for the best 22

We had our chances to win but with a decimated forward line and the kicking yips, we fell short

So get over it, we lost but we live to fight another day

Completely different circs comparing with 2021GF. Another Sub disgrace. Simon again guilty. JJ deflated and embarrassed.
You don’t seem to realise the desperately poor decision and handling of the Sub. Again in the Final.
Yet it’s smart play if Max breaks  down ? It’s even smarter play to use your Sub when one of your players isn’t contributing!!
It’s also called a tactical Sub for use as Carlin did theirs.

End of story Macca . Poor planning by our Coach and Match Committee. A wasted player who was not  used. .

That's not an equal comparison. In 2021 you couldn't make a sub unless there was an injury. Sure they could have taken May off late but the sub rule was not the same in 2021 as it was last year. They could have subbed Schache on for TMac in the SF and no one would have batted an eyelid even if he didn't get a possession.

In 2021 the sub was for injury replacement only.

We didn't suffer any injuries during that game, although Harmes offered to come off to give JJ a run.

Can't blame Simon for that.

We could have easily faked an injury to get Jordon on the ground in the 2021 GF.  But it didn't bother me either way anyway

And many of those calling for Schache to go onto the ground are using hindsight to strengthen their argument

How many were calling for Schache to go on the ground at half time or at 3/4 time?

And since when did Schache become some sort of superstar footballer?

He was the sub as the reserve 2nd ruck if Gawn went down.  We couldn't use T-Mac as the first ruck in those circumstances as the forward line was already short on talls

The main reason we didn't advance in the finals last year was the decimated forward line and we had the goalkicking yips

But Melksham & Petty are good kicks for goal as are Fritsch & T-Mac

But neither Petty or Melksham played and Fritsch & T-Mac were both proppy.  JVR is also a good kick for goal but he missed the Carlton final as well

So the makeshift & replacement forward line was not only not good enough, but they had the goalkicking yips as well

It's quite amazing that we went so close in both finals

As for Schache, he's not that much of a forward but was an adequate 2nd ruck (in Grundy's absence)

So there's no elaborate conspiracy theory, Gawn didn't break down so Schache wasn't needed

can I just say that although I support our team and our coaches 100% my softer side was saying get JJp onto the ground in ‘21 and I also felt sad for Schache last year, silly but I always put myself in their place.

Even a proppy T-Mac is value in the sense that he plays in front, puts his body on the line and doesn't mind the physical contact ... a prerequisite for a key forward even these days

So the coach would probably prefer that to a player who is not a physical player and plays from behind.  And in finals, you often need forwards who are physical

So given all that, the more logical way to look at it is that Schache was there just in case Max broke down.  If Schache was a physical beast, he may well have been in the starting 22

Much like in the 2021 GF, all the rotations and moves were almost certainly based on the starting 22.  The sub was just that in both cases, break glass in emergency

As previously stated, we ran out of quality forwards who know where the goals are, that's the main reason we lost

So in the absence of Fullarton, will Schache get into the 22 as the 2nd ruck?  Will he be used as the sub again in the same way?  I wouldn't rule it out

Remembering that we have had a 2-ruck policy 2020-2023

Interesting times ahead

WTF? When did I say this? Show me where I said this, and while you’re at it, maybe you could explain to me what I meant when I said this, coz I have nfi what this means.

Incidentally, up to this point in time you’ve only ever been accurate once in relation to something I’ve said and that’s that I am completely over the discussion of the sub; specifically, the unused sub being the reason we lost that final and how dumb Goody is etc. This has a grand total of ZERO to do with Josh Schache.

Everyone else seems to understand what I’m saying, everyone but you.

Maybe you aren’t fluent in sarcasm like the rest of us.

Edit: you said in an earlier post that you’re done with this discussion… you lied. 😠

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
