Godfrey vs West Coast

Featured Replies

Posted

Godfrey has been excellent as a stopper in the past couple of weeks [Goodes, Burgoyne & West].

Kerr has lowered his colors to Boyd last week, and Ling this week. I assume Judd gets a hard tag every week and just beats it most of the time.

I think Godfrey should go to Kerr. Perhaps play Bruce on Judd and try to go head to head, the way Bruce used to play on Hird.

Thoughts?

Agree completely. I expect fire works between those two as well. No doubt Kerr will have a crack at Godders, if far more composed players in West and Goodes have previously.

Would love to see one of the young guys given the job on Judd. Regardless of who plays on him, he'll kill us, so why not give the experience to someone like Bate, or Petterd if he plays, or even Bell. I know it's a huge ask, but we have nothing to lose.

Bruce on Embley for me.

Tag Judd, Kerr's in my dream team!

They're both in mine, so I'm hoping Godders plays on Rosa or Priddis.

Godfrey vs Kerr - he doesnt seem to like the physical, nagging side to the game, young Daniel. I'm sure Godders will give him a few 'horse tranq' jokes over the course of the day...

Bruce vs Embley - as much as i like the idea of Bruce playing on Judd ala Bruce v Hird, i just think this is a better match-up physically. Just imagine what Judd would do to Bruce with that burst of speed?

BELL vs Judd - Jaded put this one on the table, the more i think of it, the more i like it. Has the speed, strength, agility and engine to go with Judd. Could be a massive learning curve for Belly, who has come on in leaps and bounds this year and will only get better from the experience. And if he does well, it just adds another string to his bow.

Other options include Junior Mac on Judd (wihch is probably more likely), or Godders on Judd and Junior on Kerr. Maybe Ward to do a defensive midfield job if he stays in the side. Would at least make him accountable.

Other than that, i dont see us having too many options.

Kerr done nothing for my dt last 2 weeks ,out of form or something

yep godders to kerr, bruse and embeley

but i dont think it will really matter too much, i actually wouldnt mind if ND said stuff it see if you can beat them one one one no tags :)

kerr is going to have a good one this week, no doubt about, we just have to limit his effectiveness, godders can put him off his game hopefully

Bruce on Embley for me.

It seems that Embley may be a few weeks away from playing according to Fox Sports, due to an ongoing knee problem.

Apparently he was only walking laps at training on Monday.....

Having said that though, he will probably play now  !!!

I like it.... A lot.

And if Bell goes ok, maybe we can make it his yearly appointment? And if he doesn't, which is more likely, JMac can take over and at least keep Judd to 30 possessions.

He should try playing on both! ;)

Who cares...ill get killed for this but anyone actually going to be realistic and see we will lose. Even with mclean and robbo...we wont beat them even if they are firing like round 1...which they wont be. they have been out for weeks and need to get back to their best. Im placing money on west coast by 39 points this week...GO WITH YOUR HEAD NOT UR HEART

godders to kerr i think but we cant let bruce or TJ go head to head with judd.

if we had someone of the same calibre, sure back our guy in but no team has a midfielder in the same league... apart from West Coast.

I agree with those wanting to play a younger player on him, and no neccessarily a tagger either. Put sylvia or jones onto him and let them see what the best in the league do, it would be a marvellous lesson, especially for their minds if not bodies.

- they'll learn how hard to run and when

- the most effective ways to break tags

- roatations of a top midfielder

-decision making

i would like to see that.

What about Junior to Kerr, Bruce and the human splinter Godders rotating on Judd. To be quite honest I think their younger kids are the real problem eg. Rosa, Hurn, Selwood, LeCras, etc. We may be able to shut down Kerr or Judd, but these kids are more than capable of stepping up.

Not sure who he will pick up but i do know that sometime during the game he will cop a backhander. He has been a good tagger lately.

Probably Kerr IMO. No one can keep up with Judd.

you dont care by the looks of it but we are only trying to stay positive? do you ever feel like that?

If you took your own advice occo,GO WITH YOUR HEAD NOT UR HEART, you'd be barracking for Westcoast Eagles.

Jones to Kerr then?

Jones to Kerr then?

i'd be leaning towards sylvia more than jones just because of the type of player he is, but it doesnt bother me that much.

No ill always go with melb but i have 0% confidence. I love the MFC but doesent mean i have to pretend we have a chance and then go boo hoo on here sunday night when we lose

I gave up caring about winning much when we stopped playing the other younger kids

I gave up caring about winning much when we stopped playing the other younger kids

You've sucked me in, what other younger kids?

PJ, Bell, Bate, Jones, Warnock, Dunn all played last week. We've played Petterd (who was only forced out through injury) and Garland (who was clearly not ready), Frawley as an emergency but hadn't earned a spot straight up. Who of the young kids are left? CJ was out of form and i think it was a good move to drop him, Newton (by many reports) is not ready yet as he's only just started playing Sandy seniors, Weetra is a smokey pick and i won't expect him till next year, and Neville i've heard nothing about.

We ARE playing the kids, and many of them are showing the way. You can't just pack a team full of young players and hope they'll learn their lessons, your reasoning makes no sense.

Irronically i understood what you were saying before that garbage. I don't expect us to win this week, i won't tip us, BUT it's still worth discussing who to play on two of the best players in the comp. If you don't care than why go onto a forum that's all about discussing this very thing?

On the topic of the thread, for me, we play Godders on Kerr. Chances are that Judd will tear us a new one anyway so i'd like to see us go with either Bruce to run off him and try and be damaging (pipe dream possibility), or as Doggo24 suggested, go with Bell. He's been a great improver this year and doing this will not only give him great experience but show some real faith in him (much the same way as we did for Bartram last year).

I gave up caring about winning much when we stopped playing the other younger kids

I would have thought that no supporter gives up caring, no matter what......

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
