Umpires

Not much to say really is there? They are a bloody disgrace! How the hell they can accept their paycheck after todays game is beyond me! They should donate every cent to charity! So inconsistent it's beyond a joke! And that decision against Junior in the dying seconds was as harsh as they come!

Pickett Tackle

I don't care what anyone says.... That was a bloody good tackle! The commentators had a field day with it on the TV, saying that the AFL is trying to crack down on the pinning of the arms in a tackle?!?!?! What the *&^% is he supposed to do? Bump him and get rubbed out for 6 weeks?? Maybe take his legs out from under him and get 8 weeks?? Slam him in the head and get a life ban?? If every tackle I layed in my career was as good as that one I would be stoked!

Petterd

Looking bloody good.... Give this boy another pre-season and we are in for a real star! So quick in a pack with his hands and so skilled with his disposal around the ground! Spoils like a 100 game defender and reads the play better than most on our list already! Keep up the great work Ricky....

Every heart beats true

Much respect to every player out on that ground today! I have not been this proud of the boys in the Red 'n Blue for a long time.... Tried their guts out all day and robbed in the end of a result....

We will win more than we lose for the rest of the year!

Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing we will have to wait and see (re: draft picks)

im the same im shattered, angry the emotions are all over the joint

that was not a free against neitz and daveys goal should have stood, we have been robbed like we were against adelaide in queensland

I know White was given 3AW player of the game, but i am so disappointed in him for that passage of play that led to the Motlop goal. He strayed off his line, when in the middle of the ground, and then decided to give it off to the inexperienced Warnock which ultimately led to the winning goal.

Maybe it's just because i'm not a Jeff White fan, but that was just not good enough for me.

On a positive, I thought Pettrd was fantatstic. And improved performances from Bate, Jones and Sylvia.

I'm going to risk tha warth of this board and say that the umpires didnt cost us the game. We only have ourselves to blame. The free against Neitx was soft, but careless nonetheless and techincally there. The free against McDonald was probably irrelevant considering where the ball was and time left.

But we were dumb espcially in that last 10 minutes. Warnock's turnover, Bruce going three on one to Davey. We didn't kick the goals that needed to be kicked and we had a multitude of opportunities. Port had a much better structure, but most of the guys tried there guts out.

Its time for a new coach, thats the main thing to come out of today

. And improved performances from Bate, Jones and Sylvia.

Bate - yes

Jones - yes

Sylvia - no

Missed tow set shots and I'm not sure waht else he did really. Petterd was ultra impressive again and Bate was superb, and glad for him that will get his confidence up. Also Bell was terrific. There really wasn't too many bad players today. Which makes it hard to take that we lost

Were you at the game Anders? #24 was a disgrace. Clearly cost us the game imo. Very clearly.

Well I don't pay attention to what umpires pay what. The worst decision IMO was holding tha ball against Bell on the wing and then a holding free kick for Tredrea on Carroll. But in the crucial moments of the game the umpires did not lose it for us. We had our opportunties, fact is we werent good enough to take them

silva had a good game...2 set shots from outside 50 for someone coming back into the game...

but u said it in your previous post...warnock...what do u expect..not really a footballer...young...

but for Bruce to kick that pass to davey....that sums up Bruce...he might get possessions..but he makes the dumbest decisions at times...and his skills today were shocking..dropping marks..missing goals...

i am not arguing that we didnt take our opportunites, but how can you claim they didnt cost us at crucial moments? they dissallowed a goal that we had kicked, with only a couple of minutes left in the game by paying a suspect free kick. that would have won us the game. how more crucial can you get?????

I know White was given 3AW player of the game...

interesting, they gave best on to bate on triple m. at first i disagreed and i then i thought about it. it was pretty even, he kicked a couple and had a lot of footy...

the whole team missed crucial shots on goal

As I posted elsewhere, 2.8 from set shots (not including other shots which failed to register) is not gonna win you many games.

2.8 is terrible. i cant see why proffessional footballers can be that bad at kicking for goal...

Did you see the highlights from Brisbane V Freo or Ottens missing from 15 metres out? Brad Green (with the exception of last year when he had an injured foot) is easily our best set shot at goal.... I think he needs to go back to the forward line when we get some midfielders back. Poor kicking at goal is poor footy.

No more tears left to cry, this team rips your heart out. You can't say anything negative about their efforts, but oh geeez the skills and decision making at crucial times were still awful. How many chances did we have to put Port away, we were playing well above them for most of the last half, it was only our poor skills that kept them in it. It should not have even been close.

Sadly the last free kick was there (by Neitz), but stupid delivery from Bruce. How many kicks into the forward line in the last half did we stuff-up.

At least we no longer have to concern ourselves with finals. we have no chance. Plan you ski trips Melbourne supporters.

Our skills coach should be fired! We can't hit a target consistantly, and we are disgraceful at kicking for goal.

Anders is right!

The David Neitz was there althought it was very technical. We can blame oursleves for losing this to the same level as blaming the umpires. We turned the ball over far too much especially in the 1st quarter. You can always blame umpires but that would be taking the easy option. There were mistakes and yes it probably cost us some goals. We have to stop putting ourselves in a position where the umpires have an opportunity to "cost us".

As for Dee-viator who implied that Bruce did not try his guts out. I say he is just about the only one who has the entire the year to date. He played with a calf injury today and I am sure tried his guts out all day. Sure he turned the ball over a few times but he was not Robinson Crusoe.

There is so much player bashing here. I am 110% sure every player tries his best every week.

Didn't Bruce get like 28 possies, it'd be pretty hard to do that if you weren't trying.

Once again we read that our skills and turn overs cost us the game. Since round 1 our basic kicking, handpassing and marking skills have been well below what is required at AFL level. My concern increased today when I realised it wasn't our young inexperienced players that were making these errors but our senior players.

I thought similarly, but moreso that it's understandable that young guys can make mistakes like that.

The Neitz free was probably there, although in the context of the game - where they'd put the whistle away - it was pretty surprising.

The free against McDonald was utterly ridiculous.

you should have read that the umpires cost us the game. maybe it was a misprint.

Agreed. there was no difference in that tackle and others i watched this weekend. Channel 10, well we all know that they are garbage absolute trash. The umps cost us the game but i want pick 1 so losing 22 games is OK for me. Lets get Kruizer

DEEVIATOR

except cameron bruce..... exaplain to me.....

u tell me why except cameron bruce!?.....

can u justify ur idiotic comments?

im not sayin he played great......

but too single him out like that... says alot about u and ur support for the MFC....

you should have read that the umpires cost us the game. maybe it was a misprint.

We controlled enough of the ball today that we should have been well in front, I agree the umpiring yesterday wasn't good but they didn't cost us the game our turn overs and decision making cost us.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
