Not sure if you have to replace a predefined captain role on paper made at the start of the year. But if so my vote would be Lever, especially the way he's started the year.

I like that others see Gus as a potential Captain too. He'd have to be one of the most popular and liked within the club. His on field actions every week no doubt give the team a lift the way he attacks every contest and never gives up.

Has anyone seen where MFC has published who the leadership group is?

I thought you meant Lever should replace Viney as VC in general.

Oh no i do :)

Viney is the one player in this team that I really do not like, I cant stand Nibbler's dispoasal but understand that he plays a role for the team. Viney:

  • Takes on too many tacklers and always getting caught
  • Awful kicking inside 50
  • Sidestepping at the most stupid times
  • Gives away dumb free kicks
  • Cannot be in the same team as Harmes and Brayshaw - too many of the same player - and Jack is unfortunately the least skilled of the three (and that says something considering how appalling Harmes was on friday)

Think he tries to do too much because he feels like there's still a burden on him.

On the other hand, I hope Rick is the next Captain of the side.

Just my opinion but know there's quite a few who share it

I see and appreciate your views. It will be interesting to see how he goes with the captaincy this time round.

Looking for the current captain to make up for his really poor performance last week.

Lever will clearly be vice captain on Sunday, and will most likely captain the club after Max either retires or steps down as skipper.

The last time Viney was stand in captain we massacred the Lions on the MCG.

He has his flaws but his 'follow me' style of on-field leadership is underrated on here.  Lead from the front and he can leave all the tactical on-field stuff to others who are more than capable in that regard.

He also wouldn't want to put in 2 stinkers in a row.

I expect a big response from him.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
