Just on scores from ball ups, how is that measured exactly? Because Crisp's goal in the 1st and Daicos' goal in the 4th were both from ball ups.

There are a few sources for expected scores - the figures I quoted are from the Herald Sun which are provided by Champion Data. They would be the most reliable as they capture the pressure on the player at the time of the kick. The AFLxScore and crow_data_sci twitter profiles both calculate Expected Scores based on the information available to them, which only use a proxy for pressure as the pressure information is not available to them.

For example, you can use the fact that a player won a contested possession as a proxy for the amount of pressure they were under, but it won't accurately reflect the pressure they were under when they kicked the ball, only when they gained possession. But for the purposes of my over under competion (that i was the only competitor in), i'm using them just this once because they make my prediction look really good.

I'm going to try to automate these posts as much as possible, so I should be able to quite easily incorporate the opponents' HO to advantage each week with no ongoing effort.

We know both of these goals were from defensive 50 stoppages. Given our shocking record in that statistic has been a talking point this year do you have an easy way to note that going forward, will be interesting to see if improves over the back half of the season.

There's only so many oppo ruck taps teams can shark.

On that, my sense is we were better at ensuring the blues and pies couldn't shark our rack taps.

It seemed to the eye that much of the time in the past fortnight, Max was rucking more like Grundy, and that is to drop it at the foot of the contest.

I reckon Yze (and or Stafford - has he still got the rucks as well as forwards?) should get a fair bit of credit for our midfield work in the last fortnight too. Really good stuff considering Clarry's absence.

Round 13, 2023 MCG - Demons vs Magpies

Team rating was 13% off last season's Rating and 9% off this season's average.  The effect of a long half season and quality of the opposition i suspect.  Clarry out takes something off also.  Or are both teams' form coming off the boil a little?  Best guess most likely the former.

The two team ratings appearing to reflect what a close match this was (scoreboard wise).  Add 4 to 6 goals for us if we happened to have kicked 'ok' and our rating would've jumped ahead somewhat.

What a game from Captain courageous, oops i mean Vice Captain courageous!   Oh bugger he's just one bloody courageous champ is our Jack.

His second time taking out the No.1 mantle so far this season.  His other was Anzac eve vs the Tigers in Rnd 6 with a 5.400

His best rating since Rnd 9 2022 vs the Eagles where he posted a 6.550

22 effectives @ 69%, 9 clearances (most on the day), 1 rebound, 6 i50s, 11 tackles (equal best with Crisp) including 3 inside 50 (2nd most of either team to ANB with 4), 7 score involvements (equal best alongside Fritsch & Crisp), 481 meters gained, 1 goal and just 4 turnovers.

Vintage Salem & Hibberd in this match and Tomo also very impressive for mine.

Very low rating for Hibbo which is so far away from what he achieved on the day.  He was rock solid and this rating in no way reflects the value he brought imv and an indication of the game's nuances that need to be seen in person and/or on the box to appreciate.

The two concerns in these results... Kozzy posting a consecutive super low result.  Last week 0.800 against the Blues.  Neither were his lowest this season however, which was Anzac eve with a 0.550  Not sure what happened to the form he showed in Rnd 1.

The other is Spargo.  His average rating prior to his concussion was 2.131 which was approx 7% up on his 2022 rating.  Post concussion he's played 4.5 matches for an average rating of 1.944   That's 8.8% off the pre concussion average.  However still only marginally off his 2022 average by only 2%.  Wonder if he's still having some issues post concussion?

Top 5 Meters Gained (both teams):  Hunter 610, Maynard 569, Viney & Crisp 481 and Noble 455.

DD, I reckon a more useful stat to compare scoring efficiency accross games than % of inside 50s Goals is % In50s scoring shots.

Set shots accuracy can throw up anomalous results, not just missing heaps but a run of unsustainable accuracy like the pies kicking seven goals straight before registering their first miss the last time we played them.
