I wonder how Phillipou felt sliding to the Saints.  He was reported as saying he 'was made for playing in Melbourne' and wanted to play in front of big crowds...

well i was a tad disappointed with our seleciton and may have been heard to let out a slight "nooo" upon hearing our pick given ed allans size and upside and was equally as disappointed when we didnt trade into sydneys pick to nab him, nonetheless KPF was a need and jefferson once he's hit the gym does have potential theres no doubt, so best of luck to him and lets hope we don't need to worry about a key forward for the next decade ay

Any chance Kaleb Smith will be available at 37? Lightning quick small defender who loves to break lines on rebound. We need more small defenders with Jetta gone and Hibberd heading into his final season.

He will be but I wouldn’t be taking him with that pick

Yes @Lord Travis  I agree Kaleb Smith would have to been a name in our list.  I prefer a few others but at pick “37” he’d represent a solid choice.  Good pace. Good skill.

I don’t think much of Smithy skill wise, pace and athleticism are his strengths

I'm quite looking forward to Allen requesting a trade back to WA in 2 years, now that he's at the pies.

We'll find out soon but I don't see the Bulldogs future firsts being any better than Melbourne's. Will Brisbane & Western Bulldogs finish lower than Melbourne & Fremantle in 2023?

Wasn't about the future firsts as you rightly asserted. Given the uncertainty of where the future firsts will end up with all clubs vying for finals, you'd take the deal that offer this years pick 11 over pick 13 would you not?

The fact that we have 2 first next year one is dependant on our position whilst the other is dependant of Fremantle's position at the end of 2023.

The competition for spots in the 8 will heat up this year with Port, Saints, Carlton, Essendon, and the Suns pushing to improve whilst the others will be competitive.

Injuries to major players in most sides in 2023 will play a bigger part in the makeup of the final 8 than previous years.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
