Go ahead, knock yourself out and "tear me" all you like. I'm just expressing an opinion that this thread and others shouldn't be clogged up with OT rubbish.

Except that’s not all you’re doing.

btw: by responding, aren’t you effectively propagating that which you so vehemently denounce???

Howsabout we both quit clogging the thread with OT rubbish?

I've heard of list-cloggers, but not thread-cloggers. What would 'Land be without them though?

Careful now QD, you don’t wanna aggravate Maurisey any more than I clearly have. No thread-clogging allowed!

Not aggravated. I just think a moderator should clean up this whole thread of OT rubbish.

Coaches votes from the game.

All three Melbourne mids scored points with West judged BOG. Sarah Lampard got a couple of votes too as she did a couple of weeks ago. She could be underrated on here or by me at least.

Melbourne v Western Bulldogs

8 Eliza West (MELB)
6 Kate Hore (MELB)
5 Olivia Purcell (MELB)
4 Tayla Harris (MELB)
3 Tyla Hanks (MELB)
2 Sarah Lampard (MELB)

1 Alyssa Bannan (MELB)

That little tap that was missed by the commentators in the first Q. She opened out the space for Paxy to get the handball across to Tay for the goal.

When her teammates get more faith to use her she will really take a game apart.

Others probably know this, but I heard on SEN today that in Gaelic Football you can't take possession of the ball unless you are on your feet.

Mackin was on the ground with a Doggies player, hence her deft tap over to Paxy...very smart football.

She's getting better with each game.

Excellent win! Halftime I was fearful that we weren't going to go on with it, not in a losing sense but in a percentage sense, but yeah, they certainly weren't interested in mercy. Another great team effort - I couldn't name a player that didn't contribute something.

#1 highlight was Goldie's epic tackle on Blackburn and not just that, but the enthusiastic celebration by her teammates - how good's that? Reckon Jason Bennett is her #1 fan.

#2 highlight was Bannan absolutely jetting it (past poor Daisy!) to make that tackle that set up Tayla's toe-poke goal. Super stuff. Said last week that form would come for her, glad it was quick.

Paxy - you know we're in control of a game when she just goes completely off the chain like that. What a luxury provided by the rise of West, Purcell, and Hanks. I'd say she turned back the clock but that's probably doing discredit to her recent form. Loving Heath's kicking into forward 50. Tayla rose to the challenge of rucking out the game, and how! Zanker had her kicking boots on and was crucial with body work around the ground. Mithen is so much part of the furniture at this point that we forget to commend her progress. Backline didn't have much to do so hopefully enjoyed a freshen up (ok now that's just sounding arrogant).

Also agree with others upthread that those "throw" decisions against Goldrick were bizarre - like, they probably were questionable but not more so than many others. Reckon she was close to giving away 50s for dissent so at least that was avoided.

Lastly, loved that goal by Hore and loved even more that she didn't try to "claim" it as intentional.

And...this made me laugh more than it should have:

Yep, meant to mention something about this.

Many years back I was playing footy and we had a new recruit, a big "yank" in the ruck.

In his first season he did throw the ball a bit, came from basketball but by the 2nd season he was quite accomplished, well he could and did handball.

The umpires were still calling it against him...he was getting so frustrated. "God damn it umpire I handballed it".

Maybe time for the FD to have a word to the umpiring department.

Yeah, once you're tarred with the thrower tag it's hard to shake. There's a certain number 13 for the men's whose prowess in creative handballing means some umpires have this perception and he gets extra scrutiny. And I think sometimes for players new/ish to the sport it's not quite knowing when they can legitimately "hold it in" (due to not having prior) to force a stoppage as the better option than the pressured, panic handball, which is often when the technique gets a bit "interesting" and these calls happen. And if your technique's already a bit interesting due to coming from another sport, umpires will get whistle happy when in reality it's just as dodgy as many going round.

I was intrigued to see a big improvement in kicking this week, particularly for West, Heath and Mithen.

They previously barely could kick 20 m but seem to be getting much more distance, and importantly seem to have been told to put it on the boot rather than looking to handball as first option.

Importantly, kicking long has now become the critical part of the territory game, when in previous years, possession was king.  And now we have a good number of players who can kick it a long way. Since overhead marking is still a below par skill, the ball doesn't rebound like in the mens game.  Better to have it in your forward 50 than risking 3 or 4 handballs to get it there.

I posted this on another thread but our AFLW Pride jumper is copping a lot of really nasty comments on FB from our own supporters. Unbelievable. If you like the jumper, post on FB. If you don’t like it, post on FB if you must but be respectful. If you don’t like the jumper and are bereft of sensitivity and tact, don’t post. Anywhere.
Anyways the guy who designed it is a lovely Demon Army member and he’s super proud of it. As he should be.

It's a case of the comments being a great example of why it's so important. Love the way AFLW has taken the lead on this and how it's grown from a game to a round and even some pretty cool merch this year in the Demon Shop. Lots of people feel welcome at AFLW that don't at the men's, which is a great shame and hopefully something that can gradually be turned around.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
