  • Demonland changed the title to AFLW: Rd 2 Clash Moved to MCG Curtain Raiser

Our AFLW round two match has been shifted and is now the ‘curtain-raiser’ for our match next Friday!

GET THERE EARLY AND SUPPORT OUR GIRLS!!!

❤️💙

That always seemed a bizarre fixture for a Melbourne home game, glad it has been rectified.

This should be a very good game vs North who sit atop the ladder.

They demolished Freo this week who were a top 4 team last year and we beat the Crows who won the premiership.

Reckon it will be dees supporters only as North fans wouldn't get much chance to buy tickets.  Would expect Syd fans to barrack for them.

Worth getting their early.

I feel for supporters of North’s AFLW team. Having to buy a ticket (if even possible) and not getting to sit where they’d like. You’d expect North to have substantially less fans attending since it’s been moved to curtain raiser at the ‘G. Imagine if the same was done to us.

I would not care.

I feel for them also,

I'm guessing the AFL give the North Cheer Squad the Sydney squad space then clear out and maybe give unsold tickets to North to give to fans for free/token amount.

But they will have the Syd fans on their side.

Thanks for that.

Great opportunity for the rest of the fanbase to see our AFLW team. They really are a fantastic reflection on the club. Plenty of ticker and give there all

North are a tough, seasoned outfit. It'll be close but i expect to win to 2-3 goals

We always have close games in the "open" grounds, it'll be interesting how it'll be in the protected MCG.  I went to the Optus game against Freo and we looked great in such an environment. (First team to crack 100 pts)  The Ess and Hawks showed how conditions really affect the quality of girls games, more than the guys.

I agree. The game at Marvel this weekend was a good standard and much better than i expected given it was the first game of AFLW for both clubs. No doubt the Marval surface and closed roof were a factor.

Won't get out of work until 5:30/6 or so, sadly not sure how much I will be able to see.

Hopefully they get some good support.

Would like to watch West firsthand, her trajectory continues to skyrocket.

I have little interest in girls footy because the standard is so low. Now having a game as a curtain raiser is way better than loud music etc. But it could be any team.

The standard from the mens team was very low for a long time.

The girls are wearing the red and blue so I'll support irrespective of whether they are good or not. Same goes for the mens team

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
