The tough life of an interstate supporter

A brief description of how I'm feeling

Well, it has been a few years since leaving Melbourne for good ol' Adelaide (please detect my sarcasm). Life in the big retirement village is frustrating to say the least... Getting coverage of my beloved Demons is even more frustrating! One cannot rely on the Adelaide media to report on anything other than Adelaide's "massive injury list" (maybe they could take solace by looking at ours) and the Power's "young, running brigade". I am paying more money on Internet bills than I am on electricity just so I can keep up to date with some real footy news!

I recently went back to God's country and caught up with some family 'n friends which was refreshing to say the least... While in Melbourne I managed to see our awesome (sarcasm again) display against the Hawks... It is so crushing to go to a game after 2 seasons away from the 'G and witness my boys struggling with poor form and injuries...

All is not lost though, as I believe that we will only get better as the season progresses (God knows we can't get any worse) and once we get a decent 22 on the park we will win more than we lose... I must say that I had pumped myself up for a massive start to the season (like all of us did) and the start we've had has been soul destroying! We can all [censored] and whinge about injuries, but they are part of the game we love and they haunt all teams in a cyclical style, this just happens to be our turn :(

One thing that is really beginning to [censored] me off is our coaching staff's lack of faith in our youngsters! It is now that we should be looking at playing at least one draft pick every week and have a good look at how they respond under pressure and without many of the clubs leaders on the ground.... We could unearth a future leader in the next month or so and playing the likes of Ward, Whelan, Holland, Yze, Brown etc. isn't really helping us win games (or even lose them gracefully for that matter)

I hope that either Petterd or Garland get a run this week against the Fockers and we can at least see how they go against a side that is also struggling through form and injuries... A young kid that gets drafted into league footy wants nothing more than to run out on the MCG and get a kick! Neale, give them that thrill and they may repay you in ways you never thought they could!

I would love to see us come out and smack the Fockers all over our hallowed turf, although being a realist I think they may have too much strike power up forward for our backline to cover....

Finally I would just like to say that all the people that make DemonLand possible should give themselves a massive pat on the back! Border jumpers like myself thrive on up to date information on training sessions and match reviews.... Actually reading ND's match reviews on my members emails is driving me to drink a hell of a lot more than I used to! Stop being so nice and grow some testicles! My footy coach is not my best friend! He is actually a scary bloke and a bit of a [censored].... But that is the reason we are a tough local side that no-one takes lightly!

Stay true to the Red 'n Blue! B)

Ditto. I lived interstate/Overseas all of the last 2 seasons. Demonland was my LIFE!

Now I'm back in Melb, and unemployed. It's STILL my life!

Not just border jumpers KrazyJay and I undertand your plight perfectly.......

But also those of us who have never lived in Melbourne, but still support the Dees.

Your thanks to the folk here on Demonland is exactly how I feel about the situation I have up here.

It is all Swans all the time, if you want to read the AFL, if not there is plenty of rugby league to pass the time if you are so inclined!!!

And this site is used in this house to gain any information or opinion given there is a complete black hole of Melbourne club info in the Sydney press.

So thanks to those here for their info is it always greatly appreciated.

And I look forward to some of you coming to town to hopefully see a win in a couple of weeks :D !!!

What you said is perfect for me also living in Sydney. Sport report we only get scores, but no action except if it happens to be the swans playing. Very little news on melbourne in the papers, and the only news on AFL is if you buy a copy of inside football.

So i appreciate demonland, this keeps me up to date on the news happening with the club, both good and currently the bad and getting to know a few people, eg. QueenC, DemonStorm, Jaded etc.

I wonder, is the game being moved from the SCG to Telstra Stadium due to lighting?

Yep, I'm in the "have never lived in Melbourne" boat too QC. I felt pretty isolated before I came across Demonology and subsequently Demonland, because up until then I did not know one single other Melbourne supporter.

Thanks for your kind words Jezza but I don't know if I can help you too much with this.......

The last time I drove past the SCG (a while ago now as I am not on that side of the city), there was a light tower lying on its side on Driver Avenue  !!!

I read that they are running some kind of night test-run, that is at some point this week, to make sure that the substitute lighting is up to scratch.

If it isn't the AFL is definitely able to move the game to Homebush without worrying about The SCG Trust given the type of contract the Swans have with it (something about the number of games to be played the SCG v's Telstra). But what is a fact is that there is a real problem between the Swans, The SCG Trust and the AFL, mostly due to the re-development of the ground, and this lighting issue is just the tip of the iceberg, given that there is now a growing amount of talk about the need for compensation to the club because of (a fairly large) loss of revenue.

And with that I am done for the night......

Well I'll be there at the SCG with my bro, as I often am with interstate games. Very fired up.

No, I am in the northern suburbs - Epping.

I don't go over to the inner east as much, since I finished work at Fox Studios.......

And I try to avoid the eastern distributor if at all possible :P !!!

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
