I almost choked on my Corn Flakes the other day when I heard the Essendon coach Brett Rutten say of their smashing at the hands of the Cats  " We didn't see that coming "

Now where have I heard that said before by an AFL coach ??

What other Neeld influence has rubbed off on the Bombers ?

But does it look any better if he said they saw it coming but were unable to do anything about it?

I think it's more about how they perform this week - if they don't get a bounce it will be a bit of a concern.  Although they did go 0-2 last year and something like 2-6 in their first 8 games last year and made finals so who knows.

I found the change in the cats style interesting.  I've always thought they looked dangerous when they moved the ball fast in previous years but they only did that when they were behind and in striking distance.  I thought that's because Scott thinks they don't have the cattle to run out games for a full season playing this way.  I hope this is the case - would love to see them fail in finals after getting their supporters hopes up in the H&A again!

I have always thought the same but they are an ageing side and my view is that they have been seasoned this year into coming out of the blocks in a positive vein and believing they can hang on after half time in the third and fourth ? I also hope this is the case.

I'm not really sure what the motivation is in bringing Neeld back up as a point of conversation again. And why are we doing it based on the flimsiest of coincidences? Are we masochists or sadists? It's not like he has a feasible future in AFL coaching. Hence why he took up a job as the CEO of the Geelong Supercats in the SEABL.

It's nearly been ten years since he got sacked. It hurt the club for sure. But let's not forget that those 11 or so weeks that he was coach in 2013 were genuinely hard to watch. I was genuinely worried for his wellbeing.

He signed up for the job but having his shortcomings laid bare for one and a half years would have been humiliating in the extreme. The bloke has a wife and kids. Do we really still need to lay the boots in one year after we won the flag and his reign is very much in the rear view mirror?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
