I'd love to face the dogs coming off a preseason loss just like us. Probably means nothing but I'd like it anyway.

Lions are my tip for our GF opponent this year.

I get my wish. For what it's worth. Both grand finalists coming into r1 off a loss.

Ah yes, but the umps have cracked down on pulling faces when you get a free. So really, they're miles in front.

riewoldt mouthed off and it took the "respected adjudicator of officialdom" an AGE to call the 50 compared to how red hot they were about it for our praccy game

When Toby Greene returns, umpires will simply have him stand the mark 50m back by default to avoid the hassle.

I reckon you can tentatively pencil in the hawks for the spoon. Definitely bottom 4.

I didn't watch the game.  What did you make of the Tigers?  Will they be back on top as their supporters are sure they will be?

Hawthorn look like a poor side and Richmond middle of the road.

as long as dusty stays fit the tiggas will be there or thereabouts

it's hard to judge on a practice match but the hawks don't appear to have a forward line or an ability to manufacture a score, which is not too dissimilar to their season last year

Hard to say given the opposition. You can only beat who you play and the final scoreline flattered the Hawks with some junk time goals. Richmond dominated them and if it was the real thing would have probably won by 70+.

All these teams getting injuries by going too hard. Pre season is for going half arsed while still getting a kick.

Umps clearly told to cool their jets after Thursday night's schmozzle.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
