Unfortunately the Umpires of today are part of the new generation when you tell them 'no' they get upset because mum and dad never said 'no' or they played a game where every body got a participation medal.

It is what some call the woke generation but some day they will wake up and find that world does not give you anything without hard work and set backs.

When I was an athletic official the head official once said 'we are there to support the main players and not be the center of attention so me must make ourselves invisible whilst inforcing the rule'.

I'm all for cracking down on umpire abuse, but this is simply not umpire abuse in my books.

Just another stat, anyone know in the games we lost last year, did we win the Frees count or not?

We won the free kick count against Collingwood

We drew the count against Adelaide

We lost the count against GWS and the Dogs.

Thus 1-2-1 in losses.

Or, looking at it at another angle:

Perhaps after the third 50 mtr penalty we gave away during the first quarter, one would've thought that the players may have picked up on a trend that was evolving throughout the night whereby  the umpires might have been applying less tolerance to backchat than normal, as directed by the league.

Instead we gave up eight 50M penalties by 3 quarter time? Anyone know how many Carlton gave away? or did they actually exercise a bit of discipline on the night?

Maybe we are so used to getting the short end of the stick anyway the supposed "reinforcement" of rules did not sink in...

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
