There has never been a shortage of clubs believing that they will be the one, that their strong wonderful culture will be the game changer, that this wastrel prodigal son can be reformed for the better. Most times the player continues doing what they did at the previous club. There are of course exceptions (Ablett Sr comes to mind) that make the risk/reward enticing.

Martin Pike and his x4 premership medallions also say hello. Beast of a player, on (and off) the field.

I seem to recall from his Open Mike interview, that by the time he got to Brisbane, he'd realised that he had to pull his head in amd Leigh Mathews certainly wouldn't have put up with any crap, which might also have had something to do with it.

Rankine is an absolute jet. Is already a top performing small forward but also has the potential to become an elite midfielder. Hard to say what has caused his stagnation, but i think a lot of player development issues exist at Gold Coast. Remember when Rowell exploded onto the scene in his first 3-4 games before he did his shoulder? Since coming back has really just faded in obscurity.

Needs to get properly fit. Apparently one of the poorest runners at Gold Coast.

Can't see us making a play for him with Kozzie, Spargo, Chandler, ANB, etc. all with plenty of footy left.

And if we did he would cost far too much.

How do we possibly chase any one of note ? We have neither draft capital or potential salary cap space .The only solution would be to trade an established premiership player and  to do that would be madness.Should just concentrate on those that we are fortunate enough to already have .

I know we have Weid and Daw but I think that maybe a big young full forward is something we should consider. I think there has been a " Shortage" of them in the draft.

Given the ages of Tmac and Bbb, looking ahead for continued success in five years time we should probably address this.

I think this year’s draft picks do this very well. And they are teenagers! Great to see the Dees continue to be one of the youngest lists in the comp, in spite of their success. I have great confidence in our recruiting strategies, in contrast to Geelong who seem to want to stick in the present with expensive recruits 28+. I much prefer our policy of recruiting elite talent and developing them. Geelong will remain in the 8 with this strategy, but won’t get past the second week of finals.

We are much better set up for finals success, which delights me as l can’t stand those supercilious bastards at Kardinia Park!

We shouldn’t and we won’t. There is no need, great talent is knocking our doors down. We have the luxury of picking and choosing - a legacy of our success. Let them come to us, and pay reasonable price if they improve our overall strategy, but let Geelong and Hawthorn  pat over the odds for recruits 30+ which won’t set them up for premiership success.

It's very rare I disagree with you RBG. But... Pike was no Saint at Brisbane.

Imagine Patrick Dangerfield coming to the Demons in a last pitch effort to finally win a Premiership? That would be a huge news story! I doubt Patrick Dangerfield would do that though as I think he is very happy living down in Geelong.

I think Chris Judd's grandmother said it's a chance.

Maybe he could carry the water for Oliver and Petracca.

i know you're speaking hypothetically but he can stay where he is. We have a youthful list that has just won a flag. No need for top-ups

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
