2021 Player Reviews: #39 Neville Jetta

Neville Jetta has called time on his career after playing 159 games over 13 years. Drafted from Bunbury, WA as a 17-year-old in 2008, he made his debut in the opening round of the following year and his career has been characterised by hard work and dedication. Jetta was delisted by the club in 2013 but was undeterred by the setback and earned a second chance as a Rookie, taking up the challenge to become a reliable defender over the several years that followed. He informed the playing group of his decision to retire on the Monday after Melbourne’s premiership victory:- “Having the chance to be able to witness and be part of the ultimate success at this great club is something I’m incredibly proud of,” said Jetta, the ultimate competitor and a champion to the very end. Date of Birth: 12 February, 1990 Height: 180cm Weight: 80kg Games MFC 2021: 5 Career Total: 159 Goals MFC 2021: 0 Career Total: 24 Games CDFC 2021: 8 Goals CDFC 2021: 1

Neville Jetta will be sadly missed around the club, a hard, tough determined footballer that was rarely beaten, loved Nev and was sad to see how the heavy knocks caught up with him. Thanks Nev and good luck.❤️💙

A great servant of the club and his work with indigenous players was exceptional, good luck at Collingwood.

Thanks Nev for being so determined and reliable, and such a mentor and example for all especially our younger brigade and indigenous players.

We'll all miss the great man. Hope he returns in the future

He has to be the most universally loved player who was never a superstar or particularly high profile. If Jordan De Goey is one end of the spectrum then Nev sits comfortably at the opposite end. Love him.

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
