If Oliver doesn’t make some big changes to the way he plays, including significant improvements to playing “team first” footy, the Club May well consider that his trade value is attractive.
I can tell you that Yze ran a lengthy video session this week based on the positioning and work rate of our midfielders particularly when we don’t have the ball, and Oliver, Petracca & Viney were the continuous culprits of most examples.
I’m loving what I’m hearing about Yze’s intent to improve the defensive efforts, selfishness and team first acts of the big 3 egos.

Fantastic intel GWD. Thanks for sharing.

I’m very encouraged by this news. Bodes well for the season ahead. For too long our much vaunted midfield has got away with poor defensive efforts. Brayshaw was the worst culprit but Oliver was a serial offender as well.

Surprised by the inclusion of Viney but I guess if you have the heart on the sleeve, bull at the gate reputation you can get away with this.

IF players don’t buy in they should be moved on, Oliver included. Simple as that.

We’ll know soon enough whether the penny has dropped. Freo are well drilled and well coached and will take full advantage if we dish up a half assed effort.

Can’t wait for Round 1.

PLEASE

Its nice to finally get some substance on whats “really” happening during our pre season.

i know the posters who attend training and provide updates mean well, but theres never anything to really take away from reading the usual “player x/y - running out from defensive 50 drill” blah blah etc

it's not new news to these players

all coaches have been saying the same to the same group since at least 2018

sometimes it just requires a fresh voice and a different delivery of the message to get through

More importantly, it takes a Coach with the balls to actually take the hard decision and move the player out of that position OR out of the team.

This is where I think we have now evolved.

Won't matter if your name is Oliver or Viney or Petracca when he's in there.  If you don't play inside mid as Yze wants, you won't play inside mid and if you don't have another position that you can play, you might find yourself playing inside mid at Casey.

May be the reason Jordan is being included training with the mids, waiting in the wings.

Thanks for the info, GWD. While the coaching group is now necessarily smaller, it looks like they speak with more authority, given the addition of Yze and Choco.

Kelly is  very good  i don't doubt your opinion in fact they are all excellent  players however if l was to pick one for consistency it would be Zach Merrett ,

Apart from the Covid 19 season with an average  disposals of 25 .8 being short quarters  he missed only one game.

In the previous 4 seasons 2016,-,19, before the Covid  average disposal  around 28.0  played  88  games plus 1 final. didn't miss a beat.

Now that is impressive you would say.   He certainly is an A grader.

I reckon it's a close call but does Merrett actually impact and influence games to the extent Kelly or Clarry do.?

He does  involve himself in very short passing and is a bit one paced if you really look at him.

Kelly plays  more games That GWS sun because of his style and effect than Merrett firs first Essendon. Merrett is not really a goal kicker also I reckon.

Kelly for me.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
