Jordan Galluci is a bust then. How about we rookie Jake Patmore from PAFC then?

Sometimes these guys who have had bad luck can turn into good players.

I don't think we will rookie anyone. We will keep Chandler, Lockhart and Mitch.Brown and add Neitschke that's all the room we have we may rookie Bedford and Jordon if we decide to go short on the senior list.

There are some good small forward options here that are worth a punt. Ebinger at Williamstown and James Rowe in SANFL. Pity list sizes probably rule them out as an option as I’d like to see the club take a chance on one of them with a later pick perhaps.

Have to go back to page 1 as I kicked off the Thread. I haven’t changed my mind.

Sam Fisher

Jacob Wehr

Rhyan Mansell

I’d happily draft one of these guys if we use pick 50.

also add in Angus Baker - NEAFL gun from 2019 deserves a place on an AFL list

With no U18s National Championships and the Vic under 18s comp not being held, this years draft pool is hard to assess. I have worked off last years champs and the Futures games as well as the brief videos and YouTube content in WAFL and SANFL performances.

There may be a good opportunity for the Dees to draft in 1-2 mature aged players (ie. Above 18 year old) with perhaps a 3rd or 4th round picks. Clubs have recently had some success with mature age types like Luke Ryan, Sam Collins, Fritsch and Brodie Mihocek to name a few.

Good players identified so far are:

Sam Fisher, 22yo Swan Districts WAFL - exNthnBlues, exSydneySwans rookie. Skilled. Left footer. Good pace and footy IQ. Moved across to WA this year and won the Sandover Medal. Definitely value pick in 50s or 60s.

Jacob Wehr, 21yo WWT Eagles SANFL . Half back with excellent skills and ability to kick 55-60 metres. Composed defender. Could play wing as an option.  Perhaps a rookie pick.

Ryhan Mansell, 20yo WWT Eagles SANFL.  Originally from Tassie and moved to SA this year. Wing or half forward. Talented indigenous player with burst of pace and skills. Unlucky not to be drafted. I think he will get onto an AFL list. Whilst he’s still developing, I think he is too good for state league footy and would thrive with a AFL club. Probably pick in the 60s is about right.

AFL website featured a story on Jacob Wehr.  He’s a good story and reminds me of Bailey Fritsch’s story.  Some youngsters take a few years but their core skills and footy IQ is strong. Interesting to see where he ends up.  His teammate Rhyan Mansell is also a great story and hopefully JT has him on his sights.

Remember when we plucked a mature aged recruit named Allen Jakovich out of the SANFL.

Where has all the talent gone in this country?  No wonder the state of the game gets worse every year.

Do we ever remember it !!

Anyone who saw Jakovich  play would be salivating at the prospect of another Jako. He could probably do much of what he did then with two defenders hanging off him even in these days.

Glad to see Wehr get drafted to the Giants. He improved year on year at SA Eagles with his elite skills being recognised.

SANFL had  Rowe, Wehr, Highmore in the draft and McNeil and Parks in the rookie draft. And Rhyan Mansell training with the Tigers ?.

So given no one out of the WAFL this year. Interesting to see where Sam Fisher goes in 2021. WAFL Sandover Medallist in 2020 after moving across. Gun player for Northern Blues in VFL. Ex AFL Swans listed.  Still only 22. Creative running midfielder. Good skills and decision making. Evasive.  Good pace over first 20m. Skilful left footer. Knows how to win the footy and use it. He would be a handy pickup by the Dees. Suit the vacant “left side wing “ position that imv is still not being filled (although I’m optimistic about Rosman development in a few years as a lethal weapon in the midfield).

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
