Think he can become our Jack Gunston (big call I know).

I made that observation last year ... or perhaps it was 2 years ago?

Sometimes, as the third forward, you need to be the wide 'get out' leading option for the kicker if the main forwards aren't used up the middle.  Good defenders and good defensive set ups will often have the corridor blocked.

This would contribute to Fritch's leading patterns, and set shots from the flank.  You can't just offer a lead up the guts from the goal square unopposed all afternoon, especially if you aren't the main man.

Does he need to improve his set shot kicking?  Yes!  But personally I think he plays that third forward role as well as anyone going around, and I wouldn't trade him for all the tea in China.

BF FYI...

China got wind of this thread and have since banned all tea imports to Australia, to remain in place unless/until this thread is taken down.

They love the fact that he is skinny, a great aerialist and can kick goals.  They call him the marking goaling Frittata and will have none of this trade talk.

So there you have it.  If it wasn't enough that our lobsters and coal have been left rotting & steaming away at the docks over all this covid crappa, old mate Picket has now ruined any chance i have of getting skinny again on a green tea diet!

I think he will be even more effective when BBB spreads the attention further.

Absolutely linked to significant team strengthening with that duo co-operating on mutual forward craft options.

Not sure you really want to give Bayley his due credit for his ability.

Yes our system and forward work is much better but it is too simplistic not to recognise that the last 2 weeks have been coming for a long time but poor conversion and possibly some lack of  self belief and self pressure Imposed upon himself have delayed his progress.

He Is a star and like many in the team is just starting to shine in all the right ways fir the team.

It appears that right now all the players are enjoying their roles and are very positive about our development ( which I predicted all pre season BTW).

We haven't hit the scoreboard properly yet so no reason to get too confident about any result as long as we play as a team the result will take care of itself.

He is playing well, but he is not a star. He is playing his role well, as are the other forwards which his job that much easier. He is a skilful high half forward who has a great footy brain and knows where the goals are.

We will live and die in big games with our actual star players building something that can elevate Fritsch and co.

I just don’t get this need to talk in these terms with in form players playing their role.

How embarrassed and dumb would you feel to have started this thread or even to have agreed with it. Some are so quick to write players off.

Plenty on Demonland wrote off Hunt and wanted him delisted. Plenty said Lever was a dud and May was a bad deal for us in his first year when he was injured. The examples just go on and on.

Guilty as charged with Hunt.

Total reversal in form. Tmac likewise.

Full credit to them.

I thought Lever has been rocky at times but now revealing the complete class that he is.

Have always loved Fritra. Slight frame but incredible strength and speed goes with it.

wouldn't quite call tmac a reversal in form just yet

I definitely don't want him traded but people shouldn't minimise how costly his misses have been the last few years. He has consistently and reliably squandered shots in front of goal. One game doesn't change this. And the momentum we lose in games each time he misses gettable goals is frustrating.

But he's kicked 2g1, 1g3, 3g1 and 4g1 in his 4 games. That makes it three games out of four where he's missed just once, which I wouldn't put down as consistent and reliable squandering of shots in front of goal.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Are you blind?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
