A demoralising day. Easter last year. Went with my family after a family Easter Day in the Botannical Gardens. Have not been to a game since. Not a great investment was that $460 dollar membership. 55 years supporting this club and not much changes. Get on a bit of a roll, suck us in, then boom. The stark reality is that clubs like Footscray, St Kilda and Carlton have gone past us. We over rate our list. Yes, they have talent but unfortunately not the mind set to work hard enough to achieve what we desire. I have seen it time and time again, and am fast coming to the realisation that I will not get to see a flag in my lifetime.

I hear you, brother. Sixty four years in my case.  At least I saw the last premiership. I was 13 then.

It was my birthday. Went with a bunch of mates. Never forget the Saints running rampant in I think the second quarter? Just goal after goal out the back. Was embarrassing.

Yes, even though it was nearly a year and a half ago, I too have very vivid memories of the same. It was embarrassing. Even Dean bloody Kent got in the feast. I lost a lot of belief that day and nothing that has happened since has given me the slightest indication that things have or will change. That game was a stark reality check. Even this year our wins have come against either very poor teams or those going through a form or injury slump (Collingwood). At best we are a 10-14 placed team. Yet to beat any of the better teams and this week will be no different. I honestly believe the players are lazy in a sense that they just don’t seem to be prepared to dig that little bit deeper when the game is on the line. It has always been that way with the club. How many times have we actually come from behind to win a game? It has been going on for decades.

I feel the same.

I went to a garage sale a few years ago, and there was a lady who's husband had passed away from cancer. He was a hawks member and she had all this hawks memorabilia she wanted to sell, as much as i hate the hawks, i was respectful and we chated for a while;

I asked her did your Husband get to see the hawks win their GF she said with a little smile yes, he did.

It got me thinking as i and all dee's suppoters here, we have given so much to this club, for what?

And now the saints and blues and tigers have all past us, i feel we are just there to make up the numbers and sadly never get to a GF win.

That was a shocking game.

But it wasn't the last time we played St Kilda.

We played them again in Round 19 at Marvel. We were close to them all game, led them at QT and HT and only 4 points down at 3QT, but lost by 19. Was a real chance to have won a game late in the season.

In April Richardson coached and they beat us 90:55.

In July Ratten coached and they beat us 104:85 which included 12 or 13 goals by the saints from our turnovers.

There are about 10 players of their July team that didn't play yesterday vs the Lions.  Main absentees were Lonie, Bruce and Gresham.  Some of the additions are King, Ryder, Hill, Butler, Jones, Kent, Geary, Coffield, Hunter.  A vast improvement on the team that beat us that day.

Our team is better with inclusions like Weideman, May and Kozzie.

The saints have added a lot of skill and speed; things we are not strong on.  They beat us with set-ups at stoppages, keeping a player ready to receive on the outside of the pack, switching across their backline and winning the ground ball.  Much like the Bulldogs on Saturday.

Very pessimistic about this game.

Ah, yes quite right! I think my brain was well and truly in a fog by then!

The saints must be salivating about this week. Get on the $2.10 with Sportsbet, Saints 1-39

Could be. Are you really good looking, super intelligent and incredibly modest? If so, we should have a family reunion.

All the above. Born Sept '51 and Gabelich stumbled past me in the '64 GF.
I was the blonde headed bloke sitting in M54 and was wearing a red and blue shirt with flags on it that me mum had made.

Great M-9. I remember seeing you there ?. March '51 for me. Unfortunately the family reunion will have to wait. I live in France and a trip to Oz is a dream away. Cheers, Bro.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
