Or maybe Marriage,  and children,  and becoming a Dee,  entrenched in the team fabric.  being accepted.?  I am guessing, but in Cam's case,  I reckon it was likely something that added to his confidence, and completed him...  rather than some,  who need being lowered a peg or two,  before they wake up.?

I never thought he had a big head, I felt with Cam it was the opposite in feeling he lacked confidence.

The “rocket” comment was based on an old article I read. Link is below

    I picked him after a game at the 'G', when I went to watch Hurley and Watts.

    I came away thinking, unsure,  of both Hurley and Watta, on this game...  but others that took my interest were both Blease with his dash,  and David Zaharakis, who had been previously overlooked iirc.

    Blease straight line pace,  and Zaharakis good run with a step and change of direction.  I chose Blease ?...   This was before the flood became a nightmare,  and the side step became paramount.

    In my opinion, that’s a rocket. 

    Yes.  I'm aware of the Todd Viney thing;  which helped, i'm sure...  but those things only last for a short time,  before wearing off... you know 'changing spots', and those things.

    But in St Pedo's case,  he maintained his effort, and workload,  and really became a true Dee...  highly respected.  Which was hard-earned.  Just as it should be.

    I was just unsure,  some of the normal miseries were actually praising something the Club did, thought I had slipped into a parallel universe, but then you repled, all is well

    It was widely reported that we were so keen on Fritsch that we would pick him ahead of any under 18 prospects.  Pick 29 was our first pick and getting pick 31 was going to be a bonus. I was shocked when Charlie Spargo was called at pick 29 and then totally relieved when Fritsch got selected at pick 31.  I would have lost it if the Blues had nabbed Fritsch at pick 30.

    Let's be realistic about our success on this one. We could have taken Fritsch at pick 29, kept Watts and still be better off than where we are now with Spargo and his phenomenal ability to generate clangers from uncontested possessions.

    Yeah, I had plenty of time for Pedersen.

    A mate (North supporter) said he was under-utilised at North and we had got a good one.

    He trained well, changed his style and seemed to really add to the squad.

    The controversy of him ducking his head seemed to define him, although that incident was grossly misrepresented.

    He played Casey and wherever told but could never seem to secure consistent selection in the ones. He always seemed to have a positive approach and was never critical. Seemed to have a great attitude.

    Always seemed to play with intensity and I reckon he added to the team but the coach was not convinced

    i regret he did not play more but he retired well and I certainly think he can hold his head high. He gets plenty of respect and admiration from me.

    There was no retrospectivity in it with regard to ability and/or potential, at all. Fritsch was clearly the goal with our first pick; Spargo was and is way behind that marque. Totally agree with your sentiments and shared a resounding relief (when his name was called for the Dees).

      Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

      Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
