I'm not asking the club to do any fundraising. It's a donation/contribution from Demonland. I'm not asking the club to do or promote anything.

I'm simply waiting to hear back from the membership department on how I would go about purchasing  a membership on behalf of someone else.

100% agree that clubs shouldn't be putting their hands out just yet but who knows what the situation they and the world will be in in a few months time.

Really? Players earning an average of $350K plus a year need words of encouragement from mums and dads who are worrying about their jobs and putting food on the table. It would be more appropriate for the players to be offering support to the people who pay their wages.

And sorry, but there are countless community sporting and other groups that will be feeling the pinch much more than the AFL clubs. Is the AFL going to step in and help out the junior clubs that provide their players, or just let them all fold?

I'm inclined to wait and see how all this is panning out in 2 or 3 months time. If I'm still in an ok position and haven't been given the flick, I will make donations where it's needed, which may well include the MFC. But if others want to get involved now, absolutely, go for it.

If we go ahead without crowds, could the club look at having tarps covering the seats that are additional sponsors. Without trying to be funny, imagine a big Kleenex dunny paper tarp covering the punt road end goals. Is there an opportunity here to get a bit of extra cash to cover the shortcomings from gate receipts? Coles and Woolies must be making a fair bit of money at the moment...

i know this is the type of post that could easily be a Nuffies on AFL Pages content, but genuinely think these are some of the things we could explore in order to increase $$.

This is where the AFL need to start leading and show the way.

Their charter is protect the game and that's not just the first tier competition.

It's not emotional support and motivation with respects to finances that I was suggesting at all.

My suggestion of encouragement in order to provide motivation was more from an on feild performance perspective.  Playing in front of empty stadiums week in week out and total physical isolation from supporters could become somewhat meaningless to professional athletes.  Before you tell me that amature athletes play with limited external crowd support every week, they don't train and base their everyday life schedule around their footy either.  I doubt most in everyday life will be putting themselves into the degree of social isolation that has been suggested our players are to reduce their risk of contracting COVID 19 as well.

More than anything the sentiment it was just a show of solitary of us supporters with them and to remind them that they are playing for us as well.

Hey Demonland, If you flick me an international membership I'll unlikely ever opt out in the future. (Pretty sure I'm still set up for automatic deductions to Blockbuster). I've probably got a good 30 years of MFC watching misery ahead of me, so it could triple your investment in one shot.

That's something I could definitely get behind, we donate to Demonland to direct the funds towards memberships. The other positive side of it is that it's a figure which is good promotion for the club/sponsors. I was going to look into whether there was a digital membership I could add to my current one.

Agree with this Rjay. As well as helping friends and family out, there is a need to keep family businesses running to help avoid the deeper second round effects of businesses closing and people losing their jobs.

The best way to support the club IMO is to sign up in numbers (for those of us who can afford it), support our community, spend quality time with our families and spend money with family businesses and companies who pay their fair share of tax.

The club and the league will get through this without a crowd funding campaign. This said I could see such funding being useful to obtaining a competitive advantage over coming years.
