It's fascinating isn't it, who provides what expert information to the AFL to make the 'entertainment package' more subjectively palatable. I for one am a purist, and quite like the dull sounds of blokes running on turf, smacking into each other, whilst having a beer in one hand, and goanna oil in the other...

If the players have a beer in one hand and the goanna oil in the other, how do they pick up the ball?

(It's OK, I know what you mean and share your purist view)

We were doing that for a long time between 2007 and 2013 (arguably before that as well). I remember there were years that we were firmly down the bottom of the ladder, looking like we'd be beaten by VFL teams and still paying 100% of the cap.

Im all for isolation hubs, as long as 4 of the following 6 teams are sent interstate.

Collingwood

Essendon

Carlton

Hawthorn

Geelong

Richmond

Whats the bet it will be the following clubs instead.?

Melbourne

Bulldogs

North

StKilda

Bank on it i reckon.

you don't need to send any of the Melbourne teams interstate for a while if you base all the Melbourne teams in Melbourne and the interstate teams together somewhere else...say Adelaide.

That way you have seven rounds until any of the Melbourne teams need to move

To complete the season you would then need two moves from both hubs of four teams at a time. (Some how there are two more rounds needed which I'm sure the spreadsheet people can work out. Under this plan all teams would spend four weeks in the foreign hub.)

The complicating factor is the first round as it was an uncontrolled mix of the hubs... all the more reason to cancel that round ?

More arrogance from the AFL.

What's the point in announcing a return date? The AFL do not control if the season commences.

Maybe wait until more than 2 people are allowed to exercise together? which might be 4 weeks or longer

Why is it arrogance? If the AFL season is to recommence in 2020, adequate warning needs to be given to clubs, players, umpires, venues, media partners and everyone else with a role to play. I fully expect any announcement would come with a qualifier that it's based on various assumptions and if circumstances change, the AFL reserves the right to delay once more. But arrogance? I don't see it. I just see careful planning and management.

Surely you realise that any official announcement from the AFL will only be made after consultation with the relevant state health authorities.. Anything else is just conjecture.

Don't agree, with new cases approaching zero per day, if this trend continues, why wouldn't you look at resuming in July or even June? July is till 10 weeks away.

well I suppose it's not as dumb as listing the Tour de France complete with spectators for late August. Talk about a rolling disaster.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
