I really rate Hore - super courageous and from memory he didn't make too many mistakes exiting out of the backline.

Haven't really heard much about him all pre-season.

Spots are tight down back but it seems Lockhart/Harmes is favoured to take his spot.

My thoughts on Jackson and Pickett,  both from WA are they not?   good reason to pick them especially if the stadium is empty.

But I would have thought they both need a few weeks at Casey then when we play an "easy beat" side at the MCG, if there is an easybeat side, they should be eased into the main side.   Its not as if we are short of fit players and have to play certain players.

Empty stadium   no pressure on the umpires to pick the locals, we might divide the free kicks. That would be good !!

Go Dees 2020

Well I would have Sparrow and the weed in for ANB and Jackson.

It is surprising - he has shut down many more highly regarded players quite well - sometimes very well. He often gets in there, spoiling certainties, feeding out quickly and well, and running on in possession for the best options ahead. He also can keep pace with all of his opponents, shoulder to shoulder, step to step. He does not dodge the issues and contacts, at all.

Hore... and then he gives away a free kick.

I am not surprised by club's lack of support for Hore. He isn't up to it. If in doubt, watch his games from last year again and see how many mistakes he made.

Iggest problem he is neither good enough for the tall position (third) or quick enough fir the small position minding either.

is intercept and Lever is that alone.

Marty is depth but Rivers IMO should be given an opportunity to commence his career at HBF for us, especially if his Casey form is good.

Just the same Locky should be in our 22 as his playing style gives us run and carry and disposal.

By end of season I will be surprised if both these players are locked in our best 22 and our defence is one of the best in the AFL.

On Hore, unless there is another spate of injuries that forces him to be in he only has the attributes to play Lever’s role so it can only be one of them in the team.

Is a great reader of the ball in the air and third man up mark, but things fall away after that where he is average to below average at AFL level unfortunately.

An in between size not big or strong or fast enough to play on key forwards, not agile enough for medium and small forwards, and his disposal and calm under pressure is up and down. I think he needs to work to be an effective lock down defender to be able to coexist with Lever.

A much better summary of my post on Hore recently

Thoroughly agree and believe Lockhart and Rivers will be In our defence of the next decade By the end of the season.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

  • VOTES: Richmond

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
