Not sure that other one is overly 'high' 😉

Or has a base rated for 'plant'

The main access tunnel has height limitations of 2.7 to 3.9m (It is curved but wide with pedestrian and dog access down one side).

My understanding is that our building is not proposed to be on the carpark area (near Caulfield station) but will be in the south-east corner closer to Glenhuntly station. It has been moved a short distance from the existing location, which would have been land-locked by the Mt Scopus campus (when built). The ovals will be where they have always been planned to be out towards the start of the back straight.

Correct.. initially it was going to be the small triangle in the middle, then it moved to the south east corner then the north east corner. It’s now back to the south east corner. Problem is that it’s currently getting used for heavy machinery which needs to find a new section of the course.

And I guess that is where the MRC come into the picture.....assuming it's their machinery.

That is also my understanding.

North east corner and ovals just through the pedestrian tunnel on the inside of the course, in close proximity to the new facilities.

I expect construct to start in the new year, hopefully early on.

‘Source’ ;-) the north east corner is now being earmarked for the glasshouse extension..: dees have been relegated back to the south east corner.

We have a fair bit in the bank at the moment.

I am sure we have spent part of the time shoring up the financial part of the project.

Spell

It’s a little known fact that goalposts need trussing when straplings. Don’t worry, by the time we move in they’ll be mature and we can get rid of that silly crossbar.

Thats a very big extension for the Glasshouse.

South East Cnr was originally ruled out as it required a tunnel which was too expensive. Still, closer to my place.

(fyi the property next to Glen Eira College has a planning permit board out the front for a primary school. If the applicants name is anything to go by it will be a hebrew school, probs associated with Mt Scopus)

Yes. There is a problem about a tunnel to access the sports grounds from the SE corner. Not sure what the solution is for this as I can’t see them closing the racetrack for months

not necessarily doubting your new info, but you still have not provided a source or public reference

is this just something you have been told privately?

with a little bit of help from ai

AI Overview

The "Glasshouse extension" refers to a proposed development by the Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) to relocate the existing Glasshouse venue to a new two-storey building in the north-eastern car park of the racecourse. This new venue will be a larger entertainment complex featuring a bistro, sports bar, function space, and a new TAB area with 105 poker machines. The project has faced some local opposition due to concerns about increased noise and its proximity to residential areas.

Key details of the proposal

  • Purpose: To relocate and expand the existing Glasshouse venue.

  • New location: A new site in the north-eastern car park area of the racecourse, approximately 200 meters from its current location.

  • Facilities: The new two-storey building will include the Glasshouse, a new entry forecourt, and the historic Tea Room.

  • New features: The development will feature a larger sports bar, expanded function areas, and a new TAB area with 105 poker machines.

  • Operating hours: The new venue is proposed to operate from 8 AM to 4 AM.

Community reaction

  • The proposal has generated some local controversy, with residents raising concerns about increased noise and potential impact on the quality of life for those living near the reserve.

  • Some residents have also expressed frustration that community sports facilities were not prioritized in funding discussions.

  • Other residents and council members have supported the plan, viewing it as a way to increase public use and activity in the area.

Status of the project

  • The proposal has been submitted to the Glen Eira City Council.

  • Community consultation has taken place, but opinions remain divided.

  • There are ongoing discussions regarding the impact of the development on the local community and the racecourse reserve.

You could renovate and enlarge the Glasshouse to a massive size, without affecting the area we are looking at.

The existing pedestrian tunnel is a major benefit to the project and eliminates the need to interfere with racing dates to erect another one.

Can’t divulge details but the glasshouse summary above trumps MFC plans for that land

That AI overview (which, as such, can only go on what it can find, and is undated, btw) refers to the glasshouse moving 200 metres, with 'expanded' surely referring to its size at its new site relative to the existing size. So, does the old glasshouse site become available? (If so, there would presumably be a delay in access until the new glasshouse can open?

...and it's a pretty substantial facility to find suitable new space for?

In the south, on the strength of the increased community access to new facilities in the centre of the track, is the Glen Huntly Park site brought into play for one or more of the competing uses?

The proposal to relocate the Glasshouse to the guineas car park is at least 2 years old. Not quite sure why it has got legs now.
