What to do with Pick 10?

It's also the MFC way to be guilty/not guilty of an offence at the same time (eg Tanking)

Look sometimes you gotta push a bit too far to find the limit ?

Speaking to AFL.com.au's Draft Night Countdown on Wednesday, Geelong list manager Stephen Wells replied in the affirmative when asked if he would be willing to part with some of his prized selections to move up the order in a bid to land defender Fischer McAsey.

"Yeah we would. Not just Fischer, but any of the players really that we think are top-10 players," Wells said.

"We're looking to improve our position in the draft but we're not willing to give up the farm to do it, so to speak.

Cats put first-round picks on the table to move up draft order

So Stephen Wells, the best in the business wants to move into the top 10, yet Demonlanders (and the club) want two picks in the teens. In a nutshell LN.

All depends on specific targets though. If we can get the same player with pick 14 that we would have chosen with 10 it seems a no-brainer.

Can't help but feel this draft is make or break for us. if they get it right it could go a long way to breaking our premiership drought. if we get it wrong it is a massive wasted opportunity

For me it all rests on Jacksons capacity as a forward. i think we're all comfortable he will be a good ruckman, but Max is going to hold that spot barring injury for a while yet.

That's the thing though, we've already moved from pick 8. So the chances of someone sliding from around 6 to 14 are very slim. Anyway, is what it is, let's hope it's Buddy and Byron Pickett!

That's where the "live" element could potentially work in our favour. Fingers crossed.

Still praying this is how it went down:

GWS want assurance from us we won't bid on Green before trading for pick 4. We say "ok we won't bid, but you gotta promise not to pick Young or Sydney's preferred player, and Sydney, you gotta promise not to pick Young or bid on Green." A trade of words if you will.

We then go to Freo who want to trade for 8 and say "alright we'll only do the trade if you promise not to pick Young or Carlton's player, and Carlton in return also can't pick Young".

Maybe we got Adelaide involved as well. And BAM Young gets to pick 10.... I can dream.

You realise if this was done the AFL (draft tampering) would eventually find out because loose lips sink ships (someone will boast about it) and the clubs which did this would be fined and may also loose draft picks in the future.

And by moving from pick 8 to 10, if the phantom drafts are to be believed, we have essentially said thanks but no thanks to Young, Serong and Stephens.

Interesting though that multiple phantom drafts have Robertson and Kemp sliding out to 15+. Perhaps if we do another split we could see one of those brought in with Pickett if we are confident he gets past Port, Hawthorn & the Doggies. Unlikely perhaps, but no one a week ago had Pickett at 10 and Day at 12.  There are still so many variables to play out.

I know mate, I'm sure you're right. I honestly don't believe those sorts of deals are against the spirit of the draft. But I'm also not seriously suggesting we embroil ourselves in more draft controversy. I'm just frantically trying to keep alive any hope of Young playing in the red and blue as I love the way he plays.

Ohhh. 16 and 19 for our 12 and 30

I think we were worried about Port taking Pickett.

Omg carlton split and could of had both kemp and robertson, cats could of had both aswell, interesting, clubs dont seem to rate either

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.
