None on the list on this link but we do have one prospect Deakyn Smith who is on next year’s Next Generation Academy who isn’t playing today.

Ah yes, that was the player I was looking for but couldn't remember his name. Thanks for that.

Do you know if any research has ever been done looking into what players we may have had available to us from our zones in the 5 or so years prior to their introduction?

Not that I’m aware of but I do know that all AFL clubs spend a lot of time with their own local development areas.

A comprehensive win to the Jonathon Brown team over the Nick dal Santo side.

The game highlights the talent of the northern states academies which are all a fair bit stronger than the NGA. There are some good kids coming up from the academies in the near future, especially for GWS.

Thank heavens for that!

No Stingrays on that list.  Not hearing good stories about the development of their players.

Aren't the Stringrays part of our zone now too? That'd be right.

Some good picks for academy Lions, Swans, and Giants

Competition more unbalanced than ever

Agree. We need to abolish academies all together.

Swans chose to move up to Sydney, AFL & GWS chose to have a team based their too, all the picks in the world don't seem to be helping GC & the Lions weren't complaining back in the early 2000's when they were dominating.

We need to sink some time, effort and money into our own NGA.  If the club did it right we'd have a steady stream of talent coming in.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
