    Brodie Newman from Calder.  Again showed his best. I only saw him play once this year against my local team (Chargers).  He was like Easton Wood and Brendon Goddard type.  Controlled the backline.  Mature and composed and kicked with real purpose.  Not a lot of hype but I reckon he is the AFL type.  I will keep on seeing him as a pick 50-60 type. Think how the Hawks, Swans, Pies keep getting these types as 50+ bargains.

    Should be ripping prelims this week. Power v Ranges and Dragons v Chargers.  Anderson and Rowell (Suns 1,2) trying to get chargers into GF.

    MORRISH MEDAL 

    Western Jets co-captain and rebounding defender Lucas Rocci has claimed his club’s first-ever Morrish Medal for the NAB League Boys competition’s best and fairest player.

    The 175cm top-ager averaged 17 disposals, four marks and five rebound-50s per game across 13 home-and-away matches. He polled 17 votes to finish clear of Sandringham Dragons skipper Ryan Byrnes on 14 votes, with fellow top-agers Ned Gentile (Calder Cannons), Mitch Mellis (Eastern Ranges) and Jay Rantall (GWV Rebels) rounding out the top five on the leaderboard on 13 votes apiece.

    It’s closing in on three quarter time at Ikon Park and the Chargers lead the Dragons by 39 points. While they are not dominating, the 1/2 draft duo of Rowell/Anderson are showing their class and why they’re so highly thought of among recruiters. If the AFL gives the Suns a priority pick at the start of Round 1, it will truly be an absolute gift and probably far better than it would be in most years. The two are going to be great players at AFL level in a very short space of time.

    Oakleigh Chargers thrashed Sandringham Dragons by 75 points

    I’m going early with next year’s NAB Rising Star - Matt Rowell. 

    The two wingers in that NAB League Boys Team of the Year, Noah Anderson and Trent Bianco would be handy at Melbourne where we need some classy runners.

    Not overly strong, going on the u16's report from last year. That and the fact that so many of the 'top' talents are already aligned to clubs via NGA, F/S etc.

    The amount of quality left for 'open' picks will be slim pickings next year.

    Correct. Next years draft will be the most compromised ever by a fair margin. To clubs without academy options, it’s shaping as one of the worst drafts yet. Need to hit the draft high this year while we have the chance.

    The gift to GC will also be in how much of a penalty is being applied to other clubs, given the drop from the calibre from those two to the next group. They'd be getting a fair leg up in this draft pool if they get pick 1 and 2 as many suspect they will.

    One of the standouts in next years crop was on on show today. Key forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has been very good this year and kicked 4 today. He has been called the next Buddy by some, but is already tied to the Bulldogs NGA. Next years draft looks like another highly compromised edition.

    if we split pick 3 into 12 and (let's say) 15, plus a gw$ player, then we'll have the ability to trade our first rounders in 2020-2022 each year

    Chargers will be hard to beat. Two absolute guns and Bianco is a top 25 chance. Also Macrae and Ugle-Hagen as youngsters that are highly rated in 2020 draft class.

      For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

      In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
