Bluey was a 'great' of the Melbourne Football Club during it's greatest era.  I'll always have fond memories of him speeding up and down the wing at the 'G', and delivering the ball with precision to our forwards.  A sad loss. RIP Bluey.

Bad day today, a MFC great has passed away. I knew him well, as well as a great  player he was a great guy. Just a few months ago we were discussing the current team and we thought 2019 might be the year. Sadly No! Miss you mate.

I'm sorry for the loss of your dear friend, Mr Old.

I did not see him play, but my father spoke very highly of Bluey as a player. Was one of his favorites from that very successful era. I hope they catch up for a beer beyond the pearly gates.

Another premiership player has departed us.

If we're not careful, we may just end up having no surviving premiership players. Hurry the [censored] up Melbourne.

Very sad news RIP.... I was born in 64 so never witnessed the greats of our golden era & sadly our surviving premiership players are getting smaller in numbers  each year!

My favourite player as a kid .

I remember stomping both feet on the floorboards of the Grey-Smith Stand after each Bluey goal .

Bit disappointed with the minimal reporting in the morning papers . The old HUN would have had a full page spread.

None of the TV ? or radio ? programs mentioned a word

i was very disappointed ?

i suppose Craig Hutchison has never heard of “ Bluey”

Mind boggling to think that, when he was part of the 1961 team to lose the Preliminary final to Footscray, he missed what would have been his 8th grand final in a row.

Vale Bluey. Condolences to the family.

Channel 9 had a really good piece on their Monday news program SWYL.

I don't want to start a new thread, and he wasn't a Demon, but vale also to Graham "Polly" Farmer. A great player for Geelong, and a little after Bluey's time. Two greats (and not using that word lightly) gone in one week.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
