Not at all Pal. You are asking questions i don’t have an answer for.

But 5-17 tells me what i need to know

Thanks. You made the statement that "Richardson has been brought in as a consequence of Goodwin “not connecting” for whatever reason". When queried, you say you haven't got an answer to my question. So you just made the Goodwin "not connecting" bit up.

Too many people here make stuff up, or repeat rumours from totally unreliable sources, or engage in unjustified supposition about the internal workings of the club when they haven't got a clue.

No. If the coach was connecting with the team he is being paid to coach, we wouldn’t be 5-17 and 2nd last on the ladder, after making finals the year before.

Why else would a Senior Coach be bought in??

It isn’t Rocket Science

You just don’t want to know

Well, the obvious answer is to replace McCartney and provide extra experience, but I guess that doesn't suit your anti-Goodwin "failure to connect" made-up agenda.

You are free to believe what you want. I really couldn’t care less, but without such a shocking year, there is now way Richardson would be employed.

For what it's worth 'SWYL', I don't think Richo will ever coach a senior team again in his own right.

It's not what he's been brought in to do.

He has a history with Burgess at Port and it was a very positive one. I would bet that's why he's come on board at Melbourne.

He's a top notch backroom boy and that's what he's here to do, not to be a backstop if Goodwin doesn't work out.

If Goody doesn't work out I think it would be Clarkson/Simpson or bust...

Fair Call rj, but Richo was not a Senior Coach at Port with Burgess or Clarko or any of those guys. He has since been in the Senior Role. I know what he said, but if Goodwin doesn’t sort himself out quickly, he will go and Richo will be caretaker at the very least.

How would you feel if a “mentor” came in to your job after you had been in the chair for 2-3 years?

a little uneasy, at the very least.

You seem to keep ignoring that Sanderson, Harvey, Knights, Voss and until recently Ratten and McCartney have all been involved as assistant coaches (title might be slightly different) at clubs this year. Good football people are kept in the industry and rightfully so, if they still offer something. Not all are cut out to be the senior coach, for various reasons.

I think you're trying so hard to bring down Goody that your reading way to much into the Richo appointment.

Just 31 years working for a Corporation

Have seen Mentors come and go. Richo is a good guy, no problems at all.

But he has been bought in because this year was such a fail of epic proportions. I hope Simon succeeds, but he has put himself under serious pressure

I think we were always going to line up a more 'senior' assistant with the experience lost with McCartney, outside of Rawlings most of the other coaches are relatively young (experience wise) so an old head is always a good thing when the head coach is only early 40s.

Fair Call and has merit, but Richo has been bought in with “a yet to be decided” role, not as a replacement to Macca

He has been given  a job, but it doesn’t have a title....

I'm sure he knows exactly what his role is, there's no way he/they'd go through an interview process without knowing that. Title are a bit arbitrary these days, I'm sure it was lets get this guy because of his footy brain and we'll worry about what he wants to call himself later.

Sure. It is only a title

Richo will be well aware why he has been employed

No one at the club has said he is a mentor and I doubt very much that this is his role.

He is a senior assistant though and we need that particularly with Macca leaving. The coaching division is a bit young with the exception of Rawlings.

I would expect a few more to shake out yet...

No one at the Club has said anything, but we know where the problem is and that is why Richo was recruited.

Actually the Club is waiting for Matthew Lloyd to tell us what role he will have. Then the Hun will make up the rest and then shove it to Robbo who will tell us it is gospel. The Media are stuffing (could use a stronger word) a good sport up.

The Club are not going to announce what his role is until they look at their whole structure. But I am sure they have a good inkling, plus why would you let a bloke like RIchardson walk past you when he is available.

I just assume his title and official role have not been made public out of courtesy to those assistants whose jobs, or parts thereof, he'll be taking. It would be rude, disresepctful and unprofessional to say his job is to do "X and Y" when those roles have been done by someone else who is still at the club and hasn't yet been told that he won't be there after this season.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
