In 2014 we named a leadership group of six (Jones, Trengove, Grimes, Clark, Frawley and Garland). Five years on we now we more actual leaders across the ream but our leadership group is getting smaller. I like that.

Name a Melbourne player more universally adored than Jetta... he embodies everything I want our players to be. Tough, determined, team first, never give up attitude. A no brainer in the leadership group.

Lewis out and moving into more of a coaching role is also interesting. This will be his last year you feel, so perhaps they’re looking at offering him a full time coaching role in 2020. I think he would be a very good coach.

agreed  'J' ...

Actually Nev would make a fantastic mentor for 'Tracca'.
I think Tracs could do well adopting some of Nevs footy scripts.   I really think Nev could help Tracs, get the most from himself.

Petrac will be fine this will be his breakout year.

Agree with all comments.

Hope both Captains have a good year and enjoy success.

Will be interesting to see who of the Co-captains plays more games in 2019.

I hope so he is capable of being elite,  its just his head, and maturity.

But time is sliding.  If he doesn't get a move on, he will not rise to those standards.  Habits will settle.

He is very classy and composed you have to watch his highlights reel and you will see he oozes  plenty of potential he is going to break the door down.

Now he will get his chance to to play more time in the mid as the rotation with Brayshaw, Oliver Viney and Harmes  play more forward as well.  Petrac will show more of his ability. Can't help it that we have Elite Mids.

I know that but his attitude does not correspond so far he has been satisfied to be in the , I know so and so category'... instead of becoming what he is capable of.

He needs a more daring, and a more dedicated attitude to 'Become'...  almost in a sense, her's too shy, too insecure to be 'Elite'...  getting mad, getting angry (footy sense), being more aggressive about his footy, will help overcome the negatives.  And help him produce.

I see some changes this season in images... not seen him play 2019, Yet.

He has cut hair short...  and seems to be a bit more trimmed (more to go yet)... shows he maybe trying to shift his attitudes.   I hope so,  because plenty of extraordinary talents slip past, unnoticed... for lack of daring and mojo.

We have enough toughies, we have to balance it out a bit. We need silky skills as well and Petra is a natural.

Lets see what Petrac will do before he is judged further.

I think you misread my post,  'DG'.

Tracca is no AVB.   He does not have it, to play that way.  But he does have power to burst thru and to shrug some tackles.

What he lacks is a diesel engine.  thru not working at it enough.

# edit:  ..................

The judgement is a single dimension critique.  >  around his endurance and work-rate...  staying focused, and alive in the current play...  don't drop off the back-end of the play.

Look for 2nd and 3rd efforts, offensively, and defensively.

OK.

When playing TAC he played  Mid  and forward  and  looked  more of a burst player.  With the Dees  he will play forward and mid at times in a game.

He needs to tone up lose his behind and pick up his work rate... and come to speed with his endurance. However it is a wait and see as the critics will come on hard if he struggles. Petrac is in our best 22. What club would't want him?

It's not how a 17Yr old appears in u18's, that we should copy.

Joel smith is more a back-man in the old mold, but we will use him whichever way we can to advantage. this year more forward.

Tracca should proportion his frame to advantage the side...  If he is as good as people hope for,  then he will be able to adjust size and play.

I have it deep in the back of my mind, that he will end up traded at some stage... (no more than a hunch),  but his efforts without the ball need to get a lot busier.

This is where the extra weight is an issue.

I suspect the club, thru Mr Misson, has built him this way, big rump and hammies, for power, but IMO, he needs to alter shape.

The way the game trends from now, will also help to determine what his build should be like.

This will be an interesting season, for both reasons. of builds and game styles.

Your kidding arent you? The guy is only 23 and still has 8 - 10 years left in his career.

It is actually getting beyond the joke now that you have it in for Tracca. The fact you are still questioning his attitude and desire to want to succeed is just simply pathetic. You have no idea whats Petracca is doing behind the four walls of the football club. For all we know he has probably worked extremely hard over the off season trying to take his game to the next level.

In fact i know this is true because Josh Mahoney even said on friday that Tracca has worked extremely hard during the pre season and the club are very happy with development.

I'll take the professionals word over someone who is simply clueless and continues to pot shot a guy that has completely no idea and constantly questions his dedication and desire.

Give it a rest.

DV8 I understand your comments but am with DazzleDavey 36 in the Trac has 8/10 years ahead All with the Dees hopefully.

To think Dave Mission has moulded his body shape deliberately is not correct. Trac has a NRL body shape and right now it is as good as it's been in 4 years. His upper body and waist are a good sportsman's fisuique and below his waist sturdy hips and great body strength which enables him to play elitely in heavy traffic.

His marking for his size is strong (confidence is his main issue in marking and kicking).

In 2018 he kicked about 20 goals from 50 shots approx. I dont think we would be having this debate if he had kicked 30.20 instead!

Notjing but upside yes he can and will play better kick more goals and confidence will return. And this will be on the ball or up forward no matter what % it is.

Heaven help us if he breaks out this year as his ability to do so is there in abundance as long as his stars align and his mind is at ease.

An NRL physique, there's a new one.  I don't know if you've noticed, but NRL has changed in the last 5 Yrs.

Tracca, His torso chest area is not cut enough, Yet.  (re trimming down)  Hopefully he will improve further.

His upper legs are too big.  Buttocks and thighs.   Un-necessarily.

He's got a way to go, but I think this preseason has seen a change in him...  We'll see how it impacts his play this year.

- - - - - - - -

#edit:  his goal-kicking...  I haven't even checked his stats...  as its all about team goals.   He has to create play for others.

The number of personal goals is less of an issue.   He's not there to kick goals.  He is there to contribute to the team play.

who scores the goals is irrelevant, as long as we get enough supply forward, and enough shots at goal.

It's the supply forward that is the crucial bit.  This, is where Tracca has to be dominant.

- - - - - - -

#edit2:

Mind at ease.   I beg to differ.  I think he has been fairly self satisfied with howe he has been going.  A little content with things...  like JW has been, along his journey Ill-lustrious career..   Just swimmingly.

IMO,  Tracca has been fairly content... almost parallel to how the majority of supporters feel about Tracca's game...  Fairly content, and waiting for that Inevitable breakout game.

Just like watts his face.   Still waiting 58.

Completely wrong, he is his own harshest critic, they want him to relax and enjoy footy

The injury early in his career knocked the wind out of sails, he is slowly building back

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
