Forget the AFLX, this is a real news story.

Well done to Nev, Matthew Whelan and the club.

Matty Whelan was another courageous player much like Nev that I admired on the feild, who also seems to work away quietly doing his thing behind the scenes at the club without alot of public reconition.  I get a sense that he has now been a great influence on several generations of indigenous players at the MFC  (and probably non indigionous as well).  First with Flash in his playing days and now with Nev and others as well.  It's fantastic when past players can return to the fold and make such positive contributions back into the club.

What a brilliant and humble human. Neville we feel proud to watch you wear the red and blue.

What a great and much deserved honour to bestow upon Nev.  I'm guessing there wouldn't be many MFC players who have played a similar number of games to have received life membership in their playing days.

Such a good role model and story of perseverance, courage and humility.  A fan favorite by many accounts for good reason and I'm guessing that making presenting him with life membership will be well supported by all the MFC faithful.

This bloke just keeps kicking goals with his community work.

Simply... my favourite Demon.

Well earned recognition for Nev to be awarded life membership.

He's not given his due kudos by the rest of the competition, but Dees members know his true value.

One of the best role models this club has had in a very long time, up there with big Jim!

Exceptional player and exceptional human being.

We are lucky to have him!

Love this man, congrats Nev!!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
