When the melbourne cup becomes a best of three races, then it might be time to discuss it

Or the Olympic Marathon or the Tour de France!  Come to think of it, it's a [censored] idea.

Funny how the interstate teams neglegt the fact that they get true home ground advantage for 10 games a year and the vic teams might only get it 4 or 5 times, when they play an interstate team at home, and effectively are playing at neutral venues most of the time.

Ya kidding yourself if you don't think the likes of the eagles have benefited from this hugely, especially when it could be argued that it probably counts as a win or two in any given year and that without that extra win they wouldnt have finished 2nd and gotten 2x home finals.

Swings and roundabouts, not saying its fair to have the GF in melb every year but they shouldnt overlook their natural advantages, which pretty much even themselves out over the course of a season.

It is what it is

I think you could equally mount an argument that for every home ground advantage they get, they get a disadvantage for having to travel long distances roughly every second week. Whether the disadvantage can be quantified as more or less than the advantage would seem to be difficult to assess, although I suspect Champion Data have tried.

Best of seven extends until No-vember

I've been lucky enough to get a leak of the AFL's future plans:

1 game under normal rules

1 game under BS pre-season rules with 9 point goals

1 AFLX extravaganza as a tiebreaker where teams will be able to import a star player from another team.

Well, they all travel 10 times

Most vic clubs travel 6 or 7.

Hell, we go gold coast and then perth inside 6 days next year, i bet wce dont do gold coast and then melb in 6 days

and that's just for the prelims
looks like gil's ideal is:
with the GF decide
they'll play until yuletide
we'll be watching permanent football
maybe it's got merit after all

...another good reason why this stupidity should not be given oxygen.

Victorian side v WCE in the GF.

First final in Perth.  Victorian side send a 2nds team for the first game, knowing the next 2 are in Melbourne.

Who will be the first to be accused of "gaming the system"?

Oh ..... I know that Mr Big Knee Jerk will introduce a week off in between ... now it will go until December

Mmmm ...... well apparently many want the Brexit vote to be best of two or more, until the desired outcome is achieved......

How is this even a topic for discussion in the AFL?  Even the Americans don't do this with their version of 'Football'

I can understand non-victorian teams wanting a change as it is so unfair to always have the GF in Melbourne but this is not the answer

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
