SURPRISE PACKET

Drafted after a few years developing under our noses at Casey, Fritsch was a real surprise packet who filled a number of roles but was surprisingly left out of the team for the preliminary final. Was Casey’s best in his only game - the losing Grand Final against the Box Hill Hawks.

Love him. Shouldn't have been dropped for the prelim.

Will become a quality wing/half backer.

I think him, Salem & Kolodjasnij will all rotate on the wings and half back next season.

Absolute gun.

Silk, class and also an unbelievable mark for his height.

I dont want him in defense though, plays his best footy up forward and up on a wing.

I agree. This kid is a great get. Wing or high half forward are his best positions. He can intercept but I don't think the back is his best spot.

Agreed he is very valuable closer to goal and rarely butchers the ball, great pick-up by FD.

Seriously good young player. I much prefer to see him playing half forward / wing rather than in defence, but there is no harm in developing his defensive game as well.

I still think there are issues with he and Hannan in the same forward line, and he is a long way ahead of Hannan at present.

Never could have dreamed he'd be this good in his first season. I was a fan and very keen to pick him up but what I pictured was a medium sized forward who would occasionally drift up the ground. Bailey did it all this season and his ability to plug holes as they arose only impressed me more.

Was gutted when he was left out of the prelim side but respect the FD's decision and can see the reasoning.

With all hands on deck in 19 I would like to see more wing/forward but he certainly offers you something anywhere on the ground.

Great year from the youngster, real classy and never wastes the ball. Really unlucky to be dropped in the last game it should have been Tyson.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
